Eban's men were all dead, leaving him feeling utterly defenseless. He knew a few dozen cannibals were no match for the armed force before him. Enduring the pain in his lower body, he offered, "You must be explorers, lost and stumbled upon us. If you release me, I'll have the cannibals guide you out of the rainforest. What do you say?" His only recourse was to use the cannibals as leverage.
Emmett and the others snorted dismissively. Eban's still dreaming of escape, they thought. Just then, an elderly cannibal, agitated by Yvette's presence, grabbed a spear and lunged at her. Before he reached her, a gunshot shattered his leg, sending him crashing down. The other cannibals, seizing their weapons, charged forward.
Jeremiah's expression hardened. He signaled to Emmett and the others, who immediately opened fire, gunning down the charging cannibals. Within minutes, the adult cannibals lay dead, leaving only women and children huddled together.
Eban trembled, his eyes fixed on the carnage. Yvette approached slowly, stopping before him. She looked down with a slight, mischievous smirk, her cold eyes filled with disdain.
Jeremiah joined Yvette, his gaze icy and intimidating. "So," he asked, "how did you get the cannibals to produce drugs for you?"
Eban's last hope vanished. This group had come for him. Accepting his fate, he resolved to take his secrets to the grave. A spark of defiance ignited within him. "You think I'll tell you anything? You won't get a word from me!"
Jeremiah's intense stare sent chills down Eban's spine. This man is terrifying! he thought.
Jeremiah slowly drew a handgun, deliberately loading itโa process that usually took seconds, now stretched to five agonizing minutes for Eban. Despite his bravado, fear gnawed at him. Each deliberate movement of Jeremiah's was pure torment.
Jeremiah pressed the gun to Eban's forehead, a faint smile on his lips, his eyes menacing.
Emmett, Bruce, Frankie, Chris, and Jacob finished clearing the area and approached. Frankie's disgust at Eban's cannibalistic acts was palpable. This monster, a drug trafficker and cannibal, deserved more than death. "Mr. Chavez," Frankie said, "are we just going to kill him? That's too easy. We should tear him apart and feed him to the wild beasts."
Jeremiah appeared deep in thought, seemingly considering the suggestion.
Yvette crouched before Eban, her eyes narrowed, a smirk playing on her lips. Softly, she asked, "Are you really not going to talk?"
Terror gripped Eban. This woman might be even more ruthless than the men. His voice trembled, but he tried to maintain his composure. "I won't talk! Just kill me quickly."
Yvette responded indifferently, "Alright," and casually drew a dagger from her boot. Without hesitation, she plunged it into his thigh artery. Blood spurted forth. Before he could scream, she twisted the dagger, shattering his kneecap.
Eban stared at her, his face pale. Demonโฆ she's an absolute demon, he thought.
Yvette slowly withdrew the dagger, her eyes downcast, radiating a suffocating aura. Her voice was light, emotionless. "Well, still don't want to talk?"
Unable to endure the pain, Eban frantically nodded. He spilled everything about using the cannibals for drug production.
"Our gang sought raw materials for new drugs. The jungle was dangerous; we lost many men. One group, by chance, encountered the cannibals. They were about to be eaten, but their flashlights were mistaken for a divine sign, saving them. The cannibals even helped them escape. My brother and I saw an opportunity and used tricks to stage more 'miracles.' They believed us. In return, we provided human sacrifices and taught them drug production. It's been over a yearโฆ until now," Eban confessed.
Emmett chuckled bitterly. They'd spent a week searching, never suspecting Tiger Head's use of cannibals. If Jeremiah hadn't noticed something amiss, they'd still be focused on Mysonna.
Fearing Yvette's disbelief, Eban repeated, "I'm not lying. The drug lab is nearby. Check it if you doubt me." He was utterly terrified, confessing without resistance. His only wish was to suffer less.
Yvette stood, turning to ask, "Anything else?"
Jeremiah's ten men were speechless. They shook their heads in unison.
Jeremiah stepped forward, gently taking Yvette's hand, wiping the blood with paper. "Let's go," he said. "Emmett can handle the rest."
Yvette nodded obediently.
Jeremiah, in a secluded corner, cleaned Yvette's hands with tender care, his gaze serious yet tinged with affection.
Emmett swiftly ended Eban's life with a single shot. Then, he and Bruce found and burned the drug lab.
After cleaning up, the men hesitated when faced with the cannibal women and children. Yvette approached, her voice calm and indifferent. "Don't worry about them," she said. "In this rainforest, their survival skills surpass yours."
Jacob, filled with admiration, bowed deeply. "Ms. Zeller, you are right. There are really cannibals. Now, you can beat me and scold me. It's all up to you!"
