Yvette lowered her eyes, then looked up at Jase, who had stopped pretending. His eyes were blue and intense. She smirked slightly, tilted her head, and glanced casually at Yusef.

Her voice was gentle and slow. "First of all," she said, "how would a simple security guard know my last name is Zeller? How could he call me Ms. Zeller the very first time we met? Is he psychic, or can he predict the future? There's only one explanation—he already knew who I was. When he saw I was about to leave, he was desperate to involve me. Isn't that suspicious?"

Yusef rubbed his nose. It was definitely a rookie mistake. He had been too concerned about Mr. Jase Chavez's safety, which is why he slipped up.

Jase maintained a stern face, though a smile tugged at his lips. "Just based on that?" he asked. "What does his mistake have to do with me, a simple farmer being chased for debts?"

Yvette crossed her legs, leaned back, and showed no fear. She raised her eyebrows. Her boss-like posture left everyone speechless. That was true audacity. Yusef had only seen one other person remain so calm under Mr. Jase Chavez's questioning: Jeremiah, who had never been afraid of him, even as a child. A whole family of rebels.

Yvette cleared her throat. She looked at the three burly men, like kids caught misbehaving. "Second," she replied lazily, "that kick was pretty fake. Were you trying to use a blind spot? I saw it clearly. Anyone with eyes should notice, given their righteous aura. Plus, the color on those dragon and tiger tattoos is fading."

The three men quickly checked their tattoos and hands. Sure enough, the colors had faded, some smudged onto their hands. They lowered their heads in embarrassment. They'd gotten the tattoos to make the act more realistic—a dragon on the left, a tiger on the right.

Jase noticed the fading colors, his mustache twitching slightly. His eyes grew intense as he examined Yvette closely. "Alright," he asked, "even if what you said is true, what does that have to do with me?"

Yvette looked at Jase, clicked her tongue, and replied slowly, her voice calm. "Old man," she said, "didn't you look in the mirror before putting on this act?"

Jase paused. "Look in the mirror?" he asked, completely puzzled.

Yvette chuckled softly, her blue eyes half-closed. "You and Jeremiah have at least a seventy percent similarity in bone structure."

Jase immediately retorted, "I was way more handsome than that brat Jeremiah when I was young!"

Yvette shot back, "I don't think so."

The conversation reached a standstill. Jase finally stopped questioning; the girl's eyes were sharp, her observations accurate. "Yvette," he said, "since you saw through my act from the beginning, why did you just watch instead of helping? It's not easy for an old man like me. Why didn't you cooperate? It would have left a good impression if you'd saved me."

Yvette stood, her face indifferent, her aura cool. "It's not important," she said carelessly.

Jase puffed his mustache in anger, his eyes wide. The other three, intimidated by his high rank and volatile temper, dared not breathe loudly. He was a battlefield veteran; his anger was formidable.

"Young lady," he said, "you must know who I am by now. Aren't you afraid I'll stop you from marrying into the Chavez family? Force Jeremiah to break up with you?"

Yvette was silent for a few seconds. When she looked up again, her eyes were blue and devoid of warmth. "Do you want Jeremiah to break up with me?" she asked straightforwardly.

Jase was momentarily speechless. He'd only been trying to scare her. If they broke up, his grandson might never find anyone else, like his father, who loved only one woman his entire life. The men of the Chavez family were firm in their choices; only death could separate them.

In the car, Jeremiah lowered his eyes, then opened them, a look of understanding in their deep, cold depths. "Turn the car around," he told Emmett, who was driving.

Emmett's hands moved faster than his mind as he made a U-turn. He was puzzled. They'd just left Skyland. Was Mr. Chavez missing Yvette again? "Mr. Chavez," he said, "if we turn back now, we might not make it to the military base on time. Should we inform the deputy commander?"

Jeremiah's fingers drummed on the armrest. "No need," he said. "His task has already failed."

Twenty minutes later, Jeremiah and Emmett were back in Skyland. At the door, they saw three familiar faces from the military, soldiers personally mentored by Jeremiah. Emmett was confused by their presence. They stood straight, clearly preferring guard duty to acting. Upon noticing Jeremiah, they stood even straighter, bodies tense, expressions stiff. To these soldiers, Jeremiah was a hero. They saluted in unison. "Good morning, Mr. Jeremiah Chavez."

Jeremiah nodded slightly, his face expressionless. "Why are you three here?" Emmett asked.

"Mr. Jeremiah Chavez, Emmett," they explained, "we came with Mr. Jase Chavez."

Jeremiah remained calm. Emmett, however, couldn't contain himself. "Came with Mr. Jase Chavez, huh? So, where is he now?"

The three looked into the room. Emmett finally understood why Mr. Chavez was in such a rush to return. Mr. Jase Chavez had come to Skyland to see his grandson's wife. Emmett quickly pieced it together. No wonder Mr. Chavez said there was no need to inform the deputy commander. It was clear Mr. Jase Chavez and Mitchell were working together to get Mr. Chavez out of the picture.

Emmett worried. What was happening inside? Yvette was fearless, Mr. Jase Chavez was stubborn and aged—what if they disagreed? If they fought, who would Mr. Chavez support? His grandfather, or the woman his grandson loved deeply? It was a tough choice.

While Emmett pondered, Jeremiah headed inside, snapping him back to reality. He quickly followed.

In the living room, Yusef emerged from the coffee room with coffee, encountering Jeremiah and Emmett. "Jeremiah, you're back already! Why so soon?" he greeted with a broad smile.

Jeremiah nodded slightly. "Are they inside?"

Yusef nodded. "Yeah, Mr. Jase Chavez is inside, and Ms. Zeller is with him."

Emmett chimed in. Yusef gave him a quick look. "You look much stronger than before, kid." Being a martial arts expert, Yusef recognized the improvement in Emmett's internal energy.

Emmett nodded sheepishly. "Thanks to Yvette."

At that moment, a deep voice boomed from inside. "You rascal, back already and still dawdling?"
