Chapter 98: My Husband Is A Billionaire

Ivy’s stomach churned with discomfort, her heart pounding as she knocked on the door again.

“Open up, Rita, please,” she said. Her knocks were as soft as her voice, her voice as loud as the pounding of her heart. Something wasn’t right. “Please, Rita,” she cried, knocking harder.

Still, Rita didn’t answer.

Ivy wiggled the doorknob, her head swirling with opinions. Should she shout? Should she call Bud?

“I’ll have someone break down your door,” Ivy threatened, hoping that would help.

It did, because the door opened, and this time Rita came out fully.

Ivy stepped back, keeping a distance between them. “What’s going on, Rita? One of these days you will actually have to talk, you know.”

Rita’s eyes narrowed despite the fear in them. “And if I don’t?”

“Well, I will make you,” Ivy replied firmly. “My husband is a billionaire, one call and I’ll find out everything.”

Rita’s eyes widened, and she looked Ivy over as if seeing her for the first time. “If you’re so important now, what do you want with me?”

Ivy blinked. “You’re my cousin, for heaven’s sake. I haven’t seen you in a long time. You’re my blood, Rita, and I’m here to help.”

Rita paused as if thinking. Finally, she spoke. “Alright then,” she sighed.

“Thank you,” Ivy cheered. “Can I come inside?”

“No,” Rita replied, her eyes shining with fear again. She glanced around the street, suddenly becoming uncomfortable. “Not today.”

Ivy’s chest constricted with fear. “When? What happened?”

“Nothing. Just go. We’ll see you tomorrow,” Rita said, turning towards the door.

Ivy didn’t understand anything, but she was willing to trust Rita. “Alright. See you tomorrow,” she said and left.

But as she walked to the car, the uncomfortable feeling settled in her belly. She slid into the car, the emotions taking over.

“Ready, ma’am?” Bud asked, about to start the car.

“No,” Ivy replied, shaking her head. “I have this weird feeling that my cousin is in trouble. I can’t shake it.”

Bud nodded. “Let’s wait and see then.”

Ivy’s heart eased. She was grateful to Bud for understanding her without having to say much. Bud reversed the car down three blocks, just so people wouldn’t notice them waiting.

After thirty minutes, with nobody going in or coming out of Rita’s house, Ivy finally gave up.

“Let’s go home. I will come here tomorrow,” she said with a sigh.

Bud nodded and started the car. Ivy sighed again as all the feelings stirred inside her. First, it was Theresa, and now it was Rita. She really hoped they were both fine.

“Was Mr. Stone able to find out who was responsible for the multiple journalists yesterday?” Bud asked, pulling her out of her thoughts.

“Oh,” Ivy replied. She had completely forgotten about yesterday’s events. “No. We didn’t even talk about it.”

They didn’t talk about it because they were doing other things. Her body moved at only thinking about their lovemaking. And then the thought trailed off to Silas’s words, but she shoved it off.

“Since the boss thinks it’s not worth pursuing, I won’t make enquiries then,” Bud said.

Ivy knew Mason was behind it. He had given up too easily when Olivia left, which only meant he was plotting something bigger, something more sinister. But, she still didn’t want to give it much thought. To think about it is to only dive into how he found out about Suzie’s restaurant in the first place.

“We’re home,” Bud announced as he parked.

“Thanks, Bud,” she said, getting down from the car.

Ivy made her way to her room and met Silas there. He had changed into a black shirt and had arranged a desk and chair in front of the window. Even just looking at his sexy back, Ivy’s body was already tingling.

“Hey,” she said, hugging him from behind.
