Chapter 61

That statement had the same effect as someone offering their credit card. Kelly squealed inwardly and thought that Leon was oozing manliness.

As it was the weekend, there were many people in the supermarket. While they were queuing up for the checkout, a kid dashed toward them with a cart. Kelly couldn’t dodge in time, and the cart hit her belly. Almost simultaneously, Leon held the edge of the cart, his veins popping on the back of his palm.

“Are you okay?” Leon looked at her with concern.

Kelly rubbed the spot where it was hit. She wasn’t hit hard because Leon had blocked the cart in time, and it felt fine right after the impact. So, she nodded. “Yeah, it was a light hit.”

Leon turned to the naughty kid, and their parents hurried over. “Watch your child,” he said sternly. To begin with, he was an imposing man. Hence, the parents apologized and went to another checkout counter, for they were afraid to be in the same queue as Leon.

Leon turned back to Kelly. “Tell me immediately if you feel unwell.”

In reply, Kelly nodded. After checking out, Leon walked ahead with the grocery bags. After taking a few steps, he looked back and saw Kelly trotting behind him. Recalling the incident earlier, he shifted the bags from his left hand to his right. Then, he reached out and held Kelly’s hand.

Kelly never expected him to make this move and stiffened the moment his hand touched hers. They were holding hands. Leon had held her hand. Sensing the stiffness of her body, Leon looked at her from the corner of his eye. “You don’t like this?”

Nobody would ask such a question. Blood rushed to Kelly’s face, and her heart galloped faster than she could think. It’s safer if I hold you.

When she was silent, Leon assumed that he had offended her. “I’m just worried that someone will knock into you like earlier. If it bothers you, I’ll—” As he spoke, he loosened his grip, but Kelly held his hand tightly. “N-No, I’m not bothered.”

When she met his eyes, she thought she had been too straightforward. Embarrassed, she found herself an excuse. “I–I’m worried as well.” Leon smirked. “Let’s go.”

Leon led her away, holding her hand. The veins on his hand were popping as he held the heavy grocery bags, but his other hand didn’t release hers for even a second. His hand kept transmitting warmth to her. His concern was palpable.

Kelly’s face was burning, and she couldn’t seem to get rid of it. After Leon placed everything into the car boot, he spun around and saw her flushed face. “What happened to your face? Why is it so red?” he asked.

That was what Kelly would expect from an older man. He was so experienced that he was… Blushing, she explained, “Maybe it’s because the sun is too strong.” Leu looked at the cloudy sky; if that was what she claimed, so be it.

The car boot closed, and he said, “Let’s get in the car.” When Kelly was about to get into their car, someone called her name, “Kelly?”

Kelly turned to the source of the voice blankly and saw a couple walking toward her, hand-in-hand. Upon closer look, Kelly recognized her. “It’s you, Stella.”

Kelly breathed a sigh of relief. Stella McGuire was her classmate from high school and didn’t know Leon. There would be a commotion if someone from their university saw her out with Leon.

“I haven’t seen you since high school graduation. I remember that you applied to medical school. How did it go? Are you coping with the classes?” Stella asked.

“I’m coping. What about you? I remember that you enrolled in university in another state. What brought you back?”

Tugging the guy next to her, Stella looked a little shy. “My boyfriend is attending university here, and I’m back to accompany him during the weekend,” she said and nodded shyly at Kelly. Then, Stella shifted her gaze to Leon, who was simply eye-catching. He caught her attention immediately, and only then did she see Kelly.

Leon’s exceptional figure, deep-set eyes, and graceful demeanor could easily attract attention. “Who is he? Is he your uncle?” Stella asked.
