Fiona continued, “Jonathan and Teresa really do have feelings for each other. Otherwise, how could they have had two kids together, right?”

Evelyn didn’t respond.

Fiona quickly added, “Irene can be pretty bossy, but I’ll make sure she never treats Teresa badly again. She can just live with me from now on, so she won’t be bothering Jonathan and Teresa anymore.”

Evelyn said, “Irene’s not a child anymore. She can’t live with you forever, can she? And after everything that’s happened, a simple apology isn’t going to fix things. Getting back together just isn’t a good idea.”

She thought, Plus, with Irene’s temper, would she even apologize?

Fiona said, “Teresa and Jonathan should just get back together. No matter what the adults have done, think about those two innocent kids. Jonathan is a responsible guy—you know what kind of person he is. He’ll take good care of Teresa and the kids.” As she spoke, she shot Jonathan a look.

Jonathan turned to Evelyn and said, “Evelyn, please give me another chance to take care of Teresa.”

“If you want another chance, then hurry up and bring your mom back here. We need to apologize to Teresa properly,” Fiona said, giving Jonathan another look.

Jonathan quickly stood up, ready to take action.

Evelyn stood up too. She said, “No need to bring her back.”

Before coming over, Evelyn had already prepared herself for whatever Jonathan and Fiona might say. After living most of her life, she wasn't someone you could push around anymore.

She thought, Just because the two of them are putting on a show together doesn’t mean I’ll fall for it.

She continued, “Since Irene has left, let’s just leave it at that. Fiona, for your sake and Joanne’s, I won’t hold it against you anymore. I don’t want to make a scene and cause both families to lose face. We will have to live in Narri.”

Then she picked up her purse and car keys, saying to Stewart, “That’s that. Let’s just let them both live their own lives. When Hannah gets out of prison, we’ll go pick her up.”

Fiona stayed quiet.

Just as Jonathan was about to say something, Fiona stopped him.

Fiona said, “Alright then, since they’re not getting back together, let’s have Teresa come over so we can talk about child support and what Jonathan owes. We can’t let the kids get shortchanged.”

Evelyn thought for a moment before saying, “Teresa’s got her own company, so she can provide for the kids.”

Fiona replied, “That’s a separate issue. Jonathan is still their father. We need to sit down with Teresa and talk things over about the kids, face to face.”

She thought it over again and realized she really couldn’t make decisions for Teresa when it came to the kids. So she said, “Alright. Another day, I’ll have Teresa come over so we can sit down and talk about the kids in person.”

With that, Evelyn left.

Jonathan saw Evelyn out, and since she didn’t say anything else, when he came back, he asked Fiona, “Is that it?”

Fiona said, “That’s right, that’s how it is now. But tell me, what exactly did your mom do to Teresa? You were her husband. Why didn’t you protect her?”

“I didn’t know. I only found out recently that Teresa suffered a lot because of my mom,” Jonathan replied.

To Fiona, that just sounded like an excuse. She’d been through so much drama with Gordon back in the day, and she’d seen right through so many people.

She said, “No matter what, as her husband, you can’t dodge your responsibility. I can’t blame her for not wanting to get back together. Next time you see Teresa, I’ll see where she stands. If she doesn’t want to forgive you, then we’ll just talk about the kids. You’d better make sure you do your part and give them what they deserve.” With that, she pushed herself up from the table.
