Chapter 101

Shielding Teresa, Evelyn shoved Irene away. “How unreasonable! Teresa divorced Jonathan. You have zero reason to come after her, let alone lay a finger on her!”

Irene clenched her fingers. “I’m no shrew. Everyone has their pride. She’s the one crossing the line.”

“I taught her that; tit for tat is fair play. She’s crossed no line for speaking up. Rather, you deserved it,” stated Evelyn.

“Why, you…” Irene saw that Evelyn and Teresa were of one mind, so she grabbed her bag. “I have no words for you. Like mother, like daughter.”

Irene left. Evelyn turned to Teresa, who was frowning, about to speak when Evelyn told her to get in the car. Evelyn had driven a Land Rover. Teresa slid into the passenger seat.

“I saw her pointing at you and talking down to you from outside. Why didn’t you rebut her?” Evelyn nudged Teresa’s head.

Teresa rubbed her head. “I did. I wasn’t letting her walk all over me. I’m no longer her daughter-in-law. She can’t push me around.”

“Wasn’t she? I bet if she wanted to hit you, you’d have stood there and let her! Who are you trying to fool?” Evelyn exclaimed.

Teresa snapped back, “I wasn’t planning to let her. I was getting ready to parry her attack, but you beat me to the punch.”

Shaking her head helplessly, Evelyn nudged Teresa’s head again. “You little rascal.”

“Focus on your happy family; quit meddling in my business,” Teresa said, looking away. “I was on my way to the bank when I saw you. If not, do you think I care? Also, why did your dad hand over his company to you after his business flopped?” Evelyn commented.

She had long wanted to ask Teresa this, wondering how Roc Group was renamed Teresouth Group. Teresa revealed that Philip had gone abroad, but she had no idea where. She had cut off all ties with him.

Evelyn leaned back and guffawed. “He finally got what was coming to him. Branded as a dishonest debtor, his company went bankrupt, and he ran off with his tail between his legs. How satisfying!”

“You were married for so long; don’t you feel anything for him?” Teresa probed.

That stopped Evelyn’s laughter. “It’s not that I feel nothing; it’s that I’ve seen through him. First, he’s a cowardly jerk who cheated on me repeatedly, spending my money on other women.”

She quickly added, “Second, Hannah’s been missing for so long, and the police had no luck finding her, yet he hasn’t shed a single tear. That shows how heartless he is.”

Teresa’s eyes were filled with distant sadness at the mention of Hannah, her dearest sister. “It’d have been wonderful if Hannah were still with us.”

“It’s been ages… It’s just not possible anymore.” A sigh escaped Evelyn. Seeing tears in the corner of Evelyn’s eyes, Teresa silently handed her a tissue. Evelyn took it and dabbed at her eyes.

“You should go easy on skin boosters. Your skin looks oily, not as radiant as before,” said Teresa.

“Us women will need to take care of ourselves, or we’ll age quickly,” Evelyn said casually.

Teresa blurted out, “I don’t think that’s—”

A glare came from Evelyn as she interrupted, “Of course, you don’t. You never had kids.”

Teresa pursed her lips, staying silent. Evelyn, whether married or not, had loved doling herself up, and Teresa had let her be. Despite the hardship of raising a child alone after the divorce, Evelyn had never stopped buying pricey cosmetics and handbags.

The phone rang. It was a call from home, so Evelyn answered it. “Hello? Hey, Isabel… There, there, sweetheart. I’m coming home now. My little angel missed me, huh?”
