Chapter 1013
Jonathan said through gritted teeth, โI donโt even know what you mean by that. You keep wishing me happiness, but Iโve been there for you and your family from the very beginning. When your mom was in the hospital, who was the one taking care of her? Why did I do all that? Why did I put up with your familyโs attitude? What am I, some live-in son-in-law who has to keep tiptoeing around your mom?โ
Teresa asked, โYouโre about to leave. Why are you saying all this now? What are you trying to say?โ
โYou seriously donโt get what I mean? Are you really pretending you donโt understand?โ Jonathan shot back.
Teresa honestly didnโt get it. She thought, โIt is understandable for Jonathan to feel wrongedโhe has done so much for my family, especially when Lucas was in the hospital. Jonathan had given more than anyone could have expected. But now, since weโve already decided to go our separate ways, he doesnโt owe us anything anymore. He can just walk away now. Maybe itโs time I let him go.โ
Jonathan still never got the answer he wanted. He snapped, โYou still donโt get it? Fine. Listen to meโunless you come looking for me first, I swear Iโll never come back to you.โ
With that, he hung up decisively, then handed the phone back to Benny.
Noticing that Jonathan looked pretty upset, Benny asked, โWhatโs up? What did you guys talk about?โ
โNothing left to say to her. Iโm going to board now,โ Jonathan said, his tone cold.
Benny wondered, โDid it go badly again?โ He tried to smooth things. He said, โAre you going to leave? Why not wait a little longer? The kids are still so young. Are you just going to leave like this? Teresaโs mom will get over it soonโsheโs just angry right now.โ
But Jonathan shook his head and said, โI wonโt get in anyoneโs way anymore. Iโve already hired six nanniesโtwo for Mike, two for Felix, and two for her. That should be enough.โ
Benny wondered, โBy her, did he mean Teresa? He doesnโt even want to say her name now? Seriously, whatโs up with those two?โ
Jonathan was already at the gate, boarding pass in hand. Laden with regrets and that stubborn all-or-nothing resolve, he walked through the jetway and onto the plane. And just like that, Nareigh became a city he was leaving behind.
In the hospital, Teresa sat there, staring at her phone in a daze.
Half an hour ago, despite Evelynโs objections, Teresa left the house anyway, claiming she was going to Miriamโs place.
Evelyn didnโt believe a word of itโshe knew exactly who Teresa was going to see and scolded her harshly, calling her pathetic.
But Teresa insisted on going anyway.
Evelyn shook her head in exasperation. She said, โGo on, then. After everything thatโs happened, you still want to see him? Go say your goodbyes. Maybe thatโll finally make you give up on him for good.โ
Even with Evelynโs words, Teresa still headed to the airport.
Benny had told Teresa he was too busy to see Jonathan off, so Teresa thought that Jonathan would be feeling alone. That was why she made up her mind to go.
She thought, โJust to see him one last time, even if this is the end.โ
Unexpectedly, on her way there, Teresa got a call from Edward.
โTeresa, Miriamโs in the hospital. She has acute appendicitis. Iโm not even in Nareigh right nowโmy company sent me on a business trip. Can you go check on her? Iโm really worried about her,โ Edward said, his voice full of concern.
As soon as Teresa heard that Miriam was in the hospital with appendicitis, she immediately turned the car around and rushed straight to the hospital.
When Teresa rushed to the hospital, Miriam was still in the middle of her appendectomy. Teresa kept glancing anxiously at the clock, but Miriam had only just been taken into surgery, and there was no telling when it would be over.
Teresa realized there was no way sheโd make it to the airport now, so she ended up calling Benny.
What she didnโt expect was that Benny was already at the airportโand right there beside him was Jonathan.
