Chapter 1016

Teresa said, โ€œMaybe this time heโ€™ll really end up marrying another woman and having kids. He told my mom heโ€™s tired and wants us to just move on.โ€

โ€œI honestly have no idea what heโ€™s thinking. Sometimes I feel like he still loves me, but other times, it feels like he doesnโ€™t at all.โ€

โ€œMaybe thereโ€™s still the tiniest bit of love left, but everything that happened between our families has pretty much wiped it out.โ€

Miriam said, โ€œOh, Teresa, you silly girl. Why are you still thinking about this? What difference does it make if he loves you or not? Does it really matter? Youโ€™re not with him anymore. Let him and his mom live their lives. Weโ€™ve got our kids and money. We need to focus on living our own lives and making money.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re right, Miriam. I need to start living my life,โ€ Teresa said.

โ€œThatโ€™s the spirit,โ€ Miriam said, hugging Teresa and helping her up. She tossed out Teresaโ€™s drink for good, wiped away Teresaโ€™s tears, and said, โ€œLetโ€™s both live well.โ€

Teresa nodded. She thought, โ€˜Wasnโ€™t I doing just fine on my own for those two years after the divorce? Maybe being single and free from love is a relief. Iโ€™ll just go back to how things were before, when he wasnโ€™t around. Didnโ€™t I make it through just fine before? Whatโ€™s so hard about it this time?โ€™

The next day, when Edward came back, Teresa was getting ready to leave.

โ€œTeresa, Iโ€™m sorry. Miriam called me and said her stomach was hurting. I honestly didnโ€™t know who else to reach out to, so you were the first person I thought of,โ€ Edward said.

โ€œItโ€™s okay. Miriamโ€™s surgery went really well, and she needs to rest. Iโ€™ll get going then,โ€ Teresa replied.

Edward replied, โ€œOkay.โ€

When Teresa got back, Evelyn wasnโ€™t home. She heard from Isabel that Evelyn had gone to visit Jennifer.

It wasnโ€™t until evening that Evelyn finally came back. Her eyes were red, and she was wiping away tears.

Teresa asked her, โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? Did something happen with Jennifer?โ€

Evelyn sniffled and replied, โ€œOh, it was nothing. Why havenโ€™t you moved to Forlisle Rose Estates yet? Itโ€™s way more comfortable than Rosary Estates.โ€

โ€œNot going. I feel most comfortable living in my own home,โ€ Teresa replied.

Evelyn let out a sigh and waved her hand. She said, โ€œWhatever, if you donโ€™t want to go, then donโ€™t go. Suit yourself. Honestly, I donโ€™t feel like interfering in your life anymore. Youโ€™re an adultโ€“you can make your own decisions. Letโ€™s just leave things as they are and wait for Jennifer to get out next year.โ€

After coming back from visiting Jennifer, it was obvious that, for some reason, Evelynโ€™s attitude toward Teresa had improved a lot.

Teresa said, โ€œI hope you wonโ€™t stay mad at Jonathan anymore. Just like Fiona said, Jennifer was the one who broke the law first. If it werenโ€™t for that, Irene wouldnโ€™t have had anything to use against us. Jonathan has helped our family so much. Now that heโ€™s gone, thereโ€™s no point in blaming anyone, especially not him. Heโ€™s already done more than enough. I just hope that if he ever comes back to Nareigh, you wonโ€™t give him the cold shoulder or say anything harsh to him.โ€

This time, Evelyn fell silent. Teresaโ€™s words really struck a chord with her. She thought about what Jennifer had said to her in prison and nodded.

Then she said, โ€œYouโ€™re right. Seeing Jennifer in jail made me so angryโ€”I just blurted out whatever came to mind. I shouldnโ€™t have meddled so much in your business. I was wrong. And Jonathan, well, he just up and left. But Iโ€™m sure heโ€™ll be back sooner or later. You two just take good care of the kids from now on. Donโ€™t even think about anything else.โ€

It felt like getting back together with Jonathan had become a forbidden topicโ€“so unthinkable it was almost a joke no one dared mention.
