Michael asked Teresa, “Mom, Mr. Lime has been on a business trip for a long time. When will he be back?”

Teresa stroked Michael’s hair and said, “Maybe not until New Year’s Day. He’s really busy these days.”

Michael said, “Won’t Mr. Lime take me to kindergarten anymore?”

Teresa fell silent. She couldn’t make any promises to her child. After all, she herself had no idea when Jonathan would return.

When Teresa got home, she was bored and ended up logging into the account she used to run with Miriam and Sherry to sell clothes. It was her account, and she hadn’t posted anything in ages.

She’d even opened an online store back then, but hadn’t checked it in forever. To her surprise, she still had tens of thousands of followers, and that instantly brought back a flood of memories.

From early autumn last year to the end of this winter, Jonathan had spent so much time in Nareigh.

Now that he was gone, Teresa had no idea how he was doing. All the good things about him were still so vivid in her mind. She found herself missing him all over again. It was driving her crazy.

Teresa had recently bought a fish tank for the house, and she and Michael were raising some fish together.

Michael fed the little fish in the tank, then went off to play with Felix.

The fish tank glowed with colorful lights, looking beautiful. Teresa rested her hand on the glass and shot a short video. She then added a caption: [Living my best life. Starting over.]

In the video, the clear glass of the tank reflected her face and silhouette.

Teresa hit the post button, then reached out to the secretarial department at the company. She was heading back to work next week–she needed to earn more and keep herself occupied.

Just then, Sherry sent her a WhatsApp message. She texted: [Teresa, how have you been lately?]

Sherry had seen Teresa’s video and was surprised. She never thought Teresa would get back on that account again.

Seeing that Teresa hadn’t replied, Sherry texted again: [Sorry, Teresa. I hope I’m not bothering you. I saw your video–you look so pretty. Is Mr. Lynn treating you well? How’s Mike? And Miriam?]

Seeing Sherry’s message, tears streamed down Teresa’s face. She thought, ‘I am not doing well. I am not nearly as happy as I was last year.

‘So much has happened this year; the man Sherry mentioned–the one who always took care of me—is gone now. Worst of all, I’ll never see him again.’

But Teresa wouldn’t tell her friends any of this, especially not a friend she hadn’t seen in a long time. She was too proud and stubborn to admit it.

So she just replied: [We’re all good. How about you and Christian?]

Sherry replied: [We’re doing great too. If you have a minute, give me a call. I miss you, Teresa.]

Teresa didn’t have much going on, so she called Sherry. Only then did she find out that Sherry and Christian had left Nareigh. They went back to Christian’s hometown.

Sherry and Christian opened a restaurant. Christian was the boss, and Sherry was the boss lady. Business was good, and they even built a second small villa. Life there was laid-back and stress-free, nothing like the big city of Nareigh.

Sherry said, “Teresa, let me show you my belly.” She then turned the camera on herself, revealing her round, pregnant belly. She said, “I’m due any day now. The doctor said it’s a boy.”

When Sherry heard Teresa had already given birth, she was stunned. She exclaimed, “What? You already had your baby? Wow, that was quick.”

“I went into labor early,” Teresa said.

“Are you okay? And the baby?” Sherry asked, worried.

Teresa replied, “Luckily, they got to us in time. My second had to stay in the incubator for a week, but once everything was normal, he was out. He’s doing great now–eats and sleeps well.”

Sherry said, “It’s good to have money. With Mr. Lynn around, I’m sure he’s taking great care of you guys.”

Teresa fell silent.
