Chapter 1039

Because of all the bad blood lately and the unfair treatment Yalena had to endure, Eason didn’t feel kindly toward Teresa anymore, so he couldn’t be bothered to dig any deeper into why she felt familiar.

Sitting next to Eason was a chubby old man. He squinted and leered at the curvy Teresa. He sneered, “Looks like Jonathan’s really down on his luck. He even has to send his wife out to work now.”

“Chances are he’s about to go bankrupt, just burning through whatever savings he’s got left,” another man added.

“I’ve had enough of him for a long time. Now that he’s out of my life, things are finally peaceful,” Eason grumbled, his tone full of annoyance. When he looked up again, he saw Teresa walking over.

Teresa couldn’t take any more of their gossip about Jonathan. She glanced around at the group of men and said, “If Jonathan were really in trouble, I bet you guys would be the first ones to go down.”

The men’s expressions changed.

Teresa turned to Eason and said, “Mr. Kelly, you’ve been a big shot in business for years. But tell me, what are you really good at? All you ever do is scheme behind people’s backs. Haven’t you heard? Karma always catches up with you.”

“What did you just say? Say that again,” Eason snapped.

The man beside Eason quickly pulled him back and said, “Mr. Kelly, please calm down. Is it really worth it to argue with a woman? What if Jonathan comes after us? Let’s not go that far. Come on, let’s keep drinking.”

Eason might have the nerve to go up against Jonathan, but the rest of them didn’t dare. As long as Teresa was still Jonathan’s wife, all they dared to do was grumble behind her back.

Teresa continued, “Mr. Kelly, I get that you’re a father and care about your daughter. But going behind my back, trying to poach my people, kidnapping my brother and getting him hurt–I haven’t settled the score with Yalena yet.”

As soon as Teresa said this, Eason’s face changed. He realized something, but quickly masked his reaction.

He shot back, “I have no idea what you’re talking about. The Kelly family has always played fair. But you, I’d really like to see who raised you, acting so cocky in front of me.”

The other men burst out laughing. To these old guys, Teresa was just a kid. They didn’t take her seriously.

Teresa sneered, “Fine. One of these days, I’ll bring my mom over to pay you a visit. Let’s see if you’ll even dare to open the door for us.” With that, she turned and walked away.

One of the men turned to Eason and asked, “Mr. Kelly, what did Jonathan’s wife mean by all that?”

Eason replied, “She’s just spouting nonsense. It’s completely baseless.” Then he set his glass down and said, “I’ve got some family matters to take care of, so I’ll be heading out now.” With that, he left.

When Eason got home, Yalena happened to come home as well.

Seeing Yalena, Eason’s face immediately turned cold. He called her in.

Katrina was also there in the living room. Noticing Eason’s sour mood, she dismissed the housekeeper.

“Yalena, get over here. Tell me, have you been stirring up trouble behind my back again?” Eason demanded.

“Dad, what do you mean? I’ve been keeping my nose clean these days. Didn’t you tell me not to stir up trouble? If I get locked up again, you won’t be able to help me out,” Yalena replied.

“If you know that, then why did you kidnap Teresa’s brother and try to poach her people? What exactly are you trying to do this time?” Eason demanded.

Yalena said, “Dad, since you already know, I won’t hide it anymore. I’m in love with Teresa’s brother, and I want to marry him.”
