Teresa snapped, โPregnant? Seriously? Well, I wish you and your new wife, your new family, all the happiness in the world.โ
Jonathan didnโt get what she meant. With a hint of sarcasm, he shot back, โOh, so Iโm living the good life now? Funny, no one told me. Who did you hear that from?โ
The next second, Jonathan pretty much figured it out. He walked to a quieter spot and asked, โDid my mom tell you that?โ
When Teresa congratulated him on having another kid, it really caught Jonathan off guard. He thought Teresa might be pregnant again, and he racked his brain trying to remember when that couldโve happened.
He thought, โIt couldnโt have been when she was lactatingโwe never actually slept together then.โ
Teresa said, โWho told me is none of your business, and what you do has nothing to do with me either.โ
Then she said something else, but Jonathan didnโt catch it all. His voice softened a bit as he asked, โDo you miss me?โ
Teresa exclaimed, โWhat?โ
โDidnโt you just say, โWe miss youโ?โ Jonathan asked.
Teresa was speechless. She snapped, โAre you deaf or something? I literally said no one misses you.โ
Jonathan replied, โMike definitely misses me, and I miss the kids too. The baby just turned one month old. How could I possibly have gotten remarried? Iโm just busy, thatโs all.โ
โYouโre so busy, do you even have time for Mike anymore? Have you ever thought about coming back to see your kids? Sure, you send money, but I guess I shouldnโt expect you to be a father,โ Teresa said, her voice full of sarcasm.
โI admit Iโve been really busy lately. Iโve tried calling Mike, but I can never get through to his phone. Hello?โ Jonathan said.
Noticing that Teresa had already hung up, he frowned. He thought, โIt seems that she is still holding quite a grudge against me.โ
After hanging up, Teresa blocked Jonathan completely. She thought, โIrene can forget about ever reaching me through that number again. I have already made everything clear.โ
Ever since Jonathan left, Teresa had lost count of how many endless days and nights sheโd spent muddling through life, missing him so much it nearly drove her insane.
After all those sleepless, torturous nights, sheโd finally figured things out. From now on, she swore sheโd never shed another tear for himโor any of his family dramasโever again.
Chapter 1043
In Hakton, the priciest district of Nusridge, skyscrapers stretched into the sky.
Inside a luxury penthouse, Irene was cooking, waiting for Jonathan to get home.
โJonathan, youโre back. I made you some gnocchiโwant to have a bite?โ Irene called out.
Jonathan walked in, staring hard at Irene. He asked, โYou contacted her behind my back again, didnโt you?โ
Irene played dumb. She asked, โWho? Teresa? Why would I contact her?โ
Jonathan narrowed his eyes, clearly not buying it. He pressed, โYou really didnโt reach out to her?โ
Irene stomped her foot in frustration as she defended herself, โWhy would I? You two arenโt even together anymore. Do I look like I have nothing better to do?โ
Jonathan snorted and headed to his room to change.
Meanwhile, Irene started setting out the tableware. When Jonathan sat down, she placed a steaming bowl of gnocchi in front of him. She said, โYou must be hungry. Come on, dig in.โ
โIโm not hungry,โ Jonathan said, not touching his fork.
โThen what do you want to eat? Iโll make it for you,โ Irene said.
Jonathan shook his head and said, โIโm not hungry. I just want you to be straight with meโwhat did you say to Teresa behind my back this time?โ
Irene kept pretending. She said, โI didnโt say anything. Did she call you again or something?โ
โAgain?โ Jonathan repeated.
Irene pressed her lips together. Finally, she said, โAll I told her was that I hoped she wouldnโt hurt you anymore. Is that so wrong?โ
