Chapter 117

Jonathan sat up in bed, feeling uneasy. “And then?”

“I chased her off! If I’d been a bit later, she’d probably be lying right next to you when you opened your eyes. You wouldn’t have any choice but to take responsibility,” Benny replied.

Jonathan frowned. It was the first time a woman had followed him home. The night before was Teresa’s birthday, and he had gotten drunk. Benny had offered to take him home, but he’d gotten a designated driver instead.

Jonathan checked the surveillance footage. A camera in the living room primarily monitored the cleaner he sometimes hired—better safe than sorry. He rewound the footage to the early hours of that morning and saw that shortly after he’d staggered through the door, Simona had opened the slightly ajar door, entered his house, and even taken some photos. Just as she was walking into the master bedroom, Benny arrived.

Benny was amused by Jonathan’s gloomy expression. “See? I wasn’t lying. Luckily, I’m here, or you wouldn’t be able to prove your innocence.”

Jonathan asked, “Why is she taking photos of my house?”

Benny chuckled. “She probably wants to send them to Teresa, or maybe show off to your mom that you brought her home. I know all about these little tricks women have.”

“I did nothing. Help me explain it to them,” Jonathan said.

Benny giggled. “Explain to whom? Your mom or Teresa?”

Jonathan stayed silent while Benny’s grin widened. ‘How annoying!’ Jonathan thought.

The next day, Teresa attended a business party. Most of the guests were proprietresses, and Simona was one of them. When Simona spotted Teresa, she happily approached her.

“It’s been a while,” Simona said, flipping her long hair as she sat beside Teresa. “Hello, Ms. Larkin.” Teresa faked a smile.

Simona fished out her phone to add Teresa on WhatsApp for future business. Teresa agreed and added Simona to her contacts. Then, Simona opened her Instagram and said, “Check out these photos I snapped at the Pillere Fashion Show a few days ago.”

She skipped the Pillere Fashion Show pictures and showed Teresa the pictures she had taken the day before. Teresa narrowed her eyes. “This background looks so familiar… like it’s from Luviston Estates. I used to live there.”

Simona smiled and deliberately enlarged the photo. “My boyfriend took me to his place. This is where he lives.”

“Can I see it?” Teresa asked.

Simona handed over her phone. Teresa enlarged the photo and exclaimed, “This looks exactly like where I used to live. The living room setup and even the position of the plant pots are the same. This must be Jonathan’s place.”

Simona smiled shyly and didn’t deny it. “I wasn’t trying to break your heart. Jonathan and I have been dating for some time.”

“Oh? If you’re dating him, do you still need to follow him, taking advantage of him being drunk to sneak into his house and take pictures secretly? Is this how the daughter of the Larkin family handles things?” Teresa’s voice immediately drew the attention of several women nearby.

Simona’s face fell. She stood up and pointed at Teresa. “What are you talking about? What do you mean by following him and taking photos secretly?”

Teresa smirked. “That got you pissed off, huh? Jonathan’s friend told me that you secretly followed Jonathan home and planned something shady, but thankfully, his friend showed up and kicked you out. Please, correct me if I’m wrong.”

“Y-you!” Simona stammered. She couldn’t believe Benny had told Teresa about the incident. It dawned on her that Benny was Teresa and Jonathan’s mutual friend.

With a smile, Teresa said, “It seems like I’ve hit a nerve. How about this? I’ll call my friend now and ask him what’s really going on, to see if he’s misunderstood you.”

“Teresa, you’ll regret this!” Simona, not wanting to make a fool of herself, grabbed her bag and stormed out.
