Chapter 167
Miriam had planned not to drink today, but after hesitating, she poured some alcohol and downed it in one gulp.
“You didn’t do anything wrong to me,” she said, her eyes red. “Just say it. Don’t be reticent,” Miriam urged. She had eagerly rushed to care for Edward when he was sick, only to feel utterly betrayed by his actions.
“I’m sorry,” Edward said, raising a glass and draining it quickly. Panelzynna—Hottester—picked up another glass and emptied it just as swiftly. Benny held his forehead. “Teresa, you’ll have to help us all.” His words were slurred.
In the end, Benny’s family driver arrived to pick him up. Benny lived at Carina Basudan, and they arranged transportation for Teresa and the others. Teresa drove with Jonathan beside her, while Edward and Miriam, both clearly intoxicated, slept. Miriam's head rested on Edward's shoulder, and his leaned toward hers. Teresa hardly saw this until she sobered up.
Jonathan kept coughing, and Teresa noticed his face was flushed. “Are you alright?” she asked.
“I’m not sure,” Jonathan replied, narrowing his eyes slightly as he stared at the road. “We should avoid Riverbuss Road; it’s under construction and closed.”
“How do you know it’s under construction?” Teresa glanced at him.
“How could I not know about a project I developed?” Jonathan retorted, a few more coughs punctuating his words. Teresa reached over and handed him a tissue. “I thought you were busy with business overseas and wouldn’t…”
“I’m managing both international and domestic projects,” he said, crossing his arms and leaning back.
Teresa wanted to retort, “What do you mean I wouldn’t understand?” but decided to hold her tongue. First, she dropped Miriam off. Edward was intoxicated, and Jonathan helped him inside. Teresa offered to help, but Jonathan…
Teresa opened the door, and Jonathan quickly tossed Edward, or rather, Edward collapsed onto the large bed in the master bedroom. Teresa walked over to the drawer beneath the TV, retrieved the thermometer, and checked Edward's temperature. His complexion looked off, indicating a fever. It wasn’t surprising considering his drinking and exhaustion from work. After about three minutes, she removed the thermometer. “You have a fever. Take some medicine and get some rest.” She turned to leave for the guest room, exhausted.
“I’m cold,” Jonathan murmured, wrapped in a blanket with only his head visible. “Could you get me another?” Teresa searched for an extra blanket but couldn’t find one. Spotting Edward’s blanket, she planned to find something else to cover him with later.
“It’s freezing…” Edward mumbled, sneezing as he curled into a ball. However, Teresa didn’t hear him; she was tucking two blankets snugly over Jonathan.
Seated at the bedside, Teresa found herself gazing at Jonathan’s handsome face. His thick eyebrows were slightly furrowed, betraying his discomfort. She reached out and touched his forehead, which felt warm. A flicker of concern flashed in her eyes.
