Chapter 195
Michaelโs eyes lit up as Teresa nodded.
โReally? Really? Really?โ he pressed, bouncing slightly in her arms. She confirmed, โYes.โ
โYay!โ Michael cheered, snuggling closer. โIt means I can see Mr. Lime every day, right?โ His eyes crinkled in delight.
โOh, and youโll buy me new clothes, wonโt you?โ he added.
Teresa chuckled at his enthusiasm. With dreams of Jonathan filling his head, Michael happily drifted to sleep in Teresaโs arms. Teresa, however, found little rest. By the time the first light of dawn crept in, Jennifer was already up for work and caught Teresaโs eye.
โOh, good, Jennifer, youโre up. I need to talk to you about something,โ Teresa said.
โI was just about to say something, too,โ Jennifer added, adjusting her bag strap. โThis five-person apartment is too cramped. The hospitalโs been hectic, so Iโm planning to stay in the dorms for a few days.โ
โYou donโt have to, Jennifer. Stay here. Iโm heading out of Nareigh for a few days anyway. Plus, Mike seems scared of his grandma, so Iโm taking him with me,โ Teresa replied.
Jennifer frowned. โSo, youโre moving out too? What are we even doing? Just handing the place over to Evelyn and herโฆโ
Teresa sighed. โWhat choice do I have? I canโt just kick her out. Sheโs already in a bad spotโtricked by some guy, broke, and homeless. Do you really want her and her baby on the streets?โ
Jennifer scoffed. โFine, let her figure it out herself. She says she loves us, but does she really? Sheโs just good at putting on a show.โ
โCome on, Jennifer, thatโs enough. Sheโs almost fifty. What more can you expect from her?โ Teresa said, shaking her head.
Jennifer didnโt push further. As she left, she sent a quick text to Cheryl: [Donโt worry, Iโll keep an eye on Benny]. Cheryl replied.
Unaware of Jenniferโs secret plan with Cheryl, Teresa packed up and left with Michael. Before leaving, she left a note on the table, confident Evelyn would see it in the morning. Teresa drove through the soft morning light, glancing at her early-rising little one.
โHow about we stay at another villa for a few days? Iโll find a nice one and take you there. What do you think?โ
โYouโre tricking me again. You promised weโd go live with Mr. Lime,โ Michael pouted, crossing his arms.
โI was just thinking, if you want to stay in a big villa, there are other options too, not just his,โ Teresa replied.
โI want a big villa, and I want to live with Mr. Lime. I want both, Mommy, both!โ Michael puffed up his cheeks and arms in a cute protest.
Teresa sighed in defeat. I guess I should call Jonathan first, she thought. But she hadnโt called him yet. Itโs still earlyโis he even awake?
For now, Teresa dropped Michael off at her company. But Michael, ever the little planner, was already thinking about the new clothes Teresa promised him. โAfter work, Iโll take you shopping for new clothes, okay?โ
โMommy, itโs already noon. Why havenโt you called Mr. Lime yet? Does he even know weโre planning to stay with him? Do you think his reaction will be?โ Michael asked, his curiosity bubbling over.
โI havenโt contacted him yet,โ Teresa admitted. โI need to think about how to bring it up.โ
โMommy, can I call Mr. Daddy Lime? Please? I bet heโd love it.โ Michaelโs eyes sparkled, making it impossible for Teresa to ignore him.
โYou canโt call me Mommy if you do that. Otherwise, we wonโt go see him,โ Teresa countered.
โYes, Miss Beautiful,โ Michael saluted playfully, his cheerful expression tugging at Teresaโs heartstrings.
When Teresa was about to call Jonathan, his call came in: Successfully unlocked!
โIโll pick you up at two. Weโll head to Chicoham, then weโll get your appointment first thing in the morning,โ he said.
โWell,โ Teresa hesitated before stepping into the bathroom to take the call. โI wanted to ask you something.โ
โHow much is the monthly rent for the villas in Forlisle Rose Estates? My momโs out of the hospital now, and sheโs staying with me along with her younger sister. Itโs getting a bit crowded, so I was thinking of moving out,โ she explained.
Jonathan was silent for a few moments. โYouโre moving out alone?โ
โAnd a coworkerโs kid,โ she added lightly. โThe little guyโs been dreaming of living in a big villa. I thought Iโd ask. Iโve never lived in one either, so Iโm curious.โ
Jonathan let out a small huff, his tone carrying a hint of irony. โI gave you the keys last time, but you wouldnโt take them.โ Teresa was momentarily at a loss for words. What choice did I have back then? Your son insisted on staying with you. Otherwise, weโd have managed just fine, she wondered.
Jonathan didnโt respond immediately. The villa in Forlisle Rose Estates had been newly renovated, and heโd originally planned for Teresa to move in after they reconciled. Heโd envisioned her living there, raising their children, and building a life together.
He was happy Teresa wanted to move in, but the thought of that boy, someone elseโs child, made things complicated. It wasnโt that Jonathan disliked Michael. On the contrary, he was quite fond of the boy. But the villa, freshly renovated, was meant to be a home for his closest family. This sudden change disrupted his plans.
โIf itโs too much trouble, just forget it. Weโll figure something else out,โ Teresa said, not hearing a response.
