Chapter 195

Michaelโ€™s eyes lit up as Teresa nodded.

โ€œReally? Really? Really?โ€ he pressed, bouncing slightly in her arms. She confirmed, โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œYay!โ€ Michael cheered, snuggling closer. โ€œIt means I can see Mr. Lime every day, right?โ€ His eyes crinkled in delight.

โ€œOh, and youโ€™ll buy me new clothes, wonโ€™t you?โ€ he added.

Teresa chuckled at his enthusiasm. With dreams of Jonathan filling his head, Michael happily drifted to sleep in Teresaโ€™s arms. Teresa, however, found little rest. By the time the first light of dawn crept in, Jennifer was already up for work and caught Teresaโ€™s eye.

โ€œOh, good, Jennifer, youโ€™re up. I need to talk to you about something,โ€ Teresa said.

โ€œI was just about to say something, too,โ€ Jennifer added, adjusting her bag strap. โ€œThis five-person apartment is too cramped. The hospitalโ€™s been hectic, so Iโ€™m planning to stay in the dorms for a few days.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t have to, Jennifer. Stay here. Iโ€™m heading out of Nareigh for a few days anyway. Plus, Mike seems scared of his grandma, so Iโ€™m taking him with me,โ€ Teresa replied.

Jennifer frowned. โ€œSo, youโ€™re moving out too? What are we even doing? Just handing the place over to Evelyn and herโ€ฆโ€

Teresa sighed. โ€œWhat choice do I have? I canโ€™t just kick her out. Sheโ€™s already in a bad spotโ€”tricked by some guy, broke, and homeless. Do you really want her and her baby on the streets?โ€

Jennifer scoffed. โ€œFine, let her figure it out herself. She says she loves us, but does she really? Sheโ€™s just good at putting on a show.โ€

โ€œCome on, Jennifer, thatโ€™s enough. Sheโ€™s almost fifty. What more can you expect from her?โ€ Teresa said, shaking her head.

Jennifer didnโ€™t push further. As she left, she sent a quick text to Cheryl: [Donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™ll keep an eye on Benny]. Cheryl replied.

Unaware of Jenniferโ€™s secret plan with Cheryl, Teresa packed up and left with Michael. Before leaving, she left a note on the table, confident Evelyn would see it in the morning. Teresa drove through the soft morning light, glancing at her early-rising little one.

โ€œHow about we stay at another villa for a few days? Iโ€™ll find a nice one and take you there. What do you think?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re tricking me again. You promised weโ€™d go live with Mr. Lime,โ€ Michael pouted, crossing his arms.

โ€œI was just thinking, if you want to stay in a big villa, there are other options too, not just his,โ€ Teresa replied.

โ€œI want a big villa, and I want to live with Mr. Lime. I want both, Mommy, both!โ€ Michael puffed up his cheeks and arms in a cute protest.

Teresa sighed in defeat. I guess I should call Jonathan first, she thought. But she hadnโ€™t called him yet. Itโ€™s still earlyโ€”is he even awake?

For now, Teresa dropped Michael off at her company. But Michael, ever the little planner, was already thinking about the new clothes Teresa promised him. โ€œAfter work, Iโ€™ll take you shopping for new clothes, okay?โ€

โ€œMommy, itโ€™s already noon. Why havenโ€™t you called Mr. Lime yet? Does he even know weโ€™re planning to stay with him? Do you think his reaction will be?โ€ Michael asked, his curiosity bubbling over.

โ€œI havenโ€™t contacted him yet,โ€ Teresa admitted. โ€œI need to think about how to bring it up.โ€

โ€œMommy, can I call Mr. Daddy Lime? Please? I bet heโ€™d love it.โ€ Michaelโ€™s eyes sparkled, making it impossible for Teresa to ignore him.

โ€œYou canโ€™t call me Mommy if you do that. Otherwise, we wonโ€™t go see him,โ€ Teresa countered.

โ€œYes, Miss Beautiful,โ€ Michael saluted playfully, his cheerful expression tugging at Teresaโ€™s heartstrings.

When Teresa was about to call Jonathan, his call came in: Successfully unlocked!

โ€œIโ€™ll pick you up at two. Weโ€™ll head to Chicoham, then weโ€™ll get your appointment first thing in the morning,โ€ he said.

โ€œWell,โ€ Teresa hesitated before stepping into the bathroom to take the call. โ€œI wanted to ask you something.โ€

โ€œHow much is the monthly rent for the villas in Forlisle Rose Estates? My momโ€™s out of the hospital now, and sheโ€™s staying with me along with her younger sister. Itโ€™s getting a bit crowded, so I was thinking of moving out,โ€ she explained.

Jonathan was silent for a few moments. โ€œYouโ€™re moving out alone?โ€

โ€œAnd a coworkerโ€™s kid,โ€ she added lightly. โ€œThe little guyโ€™s been dreaming of living in a big villa. I thought Iโ€™d ask. Iโ€™ve never lived in one either, so Iโ€™m curious.โ€

Jonathan let out a small huff, his tone carrying a hint of irony. โ€œI gave you the keys last time, but you wouldnโ€™t take them.โ€ Teresa was momentarily at a loss for words. What choice did I have back then? Your son insisted on staying with you. Otherwise, weโ€™d have managed just fine, she wondered.

Jonathan didnโ€™t respond immediately. The villa in Forlisle Rose Estates had been newly renovated, and heโ€™d originally planned for Teresa to move in after they reconciled. Heโ€™d envisioned her living there, raising their children, and building a life together.

He was happy Teresa wanted to move in, but the thought of that boy, someone elseโ€™s child, made things complicated. It wasnโ€™t that Jonathan disliked Michael. On the contrary, he was quite fond of the boy. But the villa, freshly renovated, was meant to be a home for his closest family. This sudden change disrupted his plans.

โ€œIf itโ€™s too much trouble, just forget it. Weโ€™ll figure something else out,โ€ Teresa said, not hearing a response.
