Chapter 246
Cathy panicked and called out to Jennifer, hurrying to follow her. But Irene grabbed her wrist, stopping her. Nene said, “Just look at her! What kind of woman behaves like that? Donald could do so much better. Tell him to stop chasing after her and find someone worth his time.”
Irene complained inwardly. Seriously, does the Lynn family owe the two sisters something? Why is everyone so fixated on them?
Cathy pulled her hand free and sighed helplessly. “Irene, what can I do? It’s their decision. If Donald’s made up his mind, there’s nothing I can do to stop him.”
“Oh, Cathy,” Irene exclaimed in frustration.
A series of knocks echoed through the room. Jennifer called out, “Who’s there?”
Cathy entered, looking flustered. “Jennifer, I just wanted to explain something. Irene has always been blunt. Please don’t take her words to heart. I don’t have anything against you or Teresa. Back when Teresa married Jonathan, we got along well. Even Donald and his sister were close to her.”
Jennifer said, “Irene said my sister and I are after your family’s money. What a joke! We haven’t even said a word about it, but she’s already calling us uncultured. Honestly, I doubt she even knows the meaning of the word ‘manners.’”
Cathy said, “That’s just how Irene is.” Deep down, she thought to herself, Jennifer isn’t exactly someone to mess with either.
Still, Cathy knew Donald well. He was stubborn, and he had his heart set on Jennifer. Cathy couldn’t risk Jennifer breaking up with Donald in a fit of anger. She was eager to have a grandchild.
Cathy continued, “Jennifer, Donald likes you. He says you’re beautiful, smart, and capable. I truly don’t have a problem with you. He even told me not to worry about your family background. As long as you two like each other, that’s all that matters. You have the final say.”
Jennifer felt a warmth in her heart and said, “Thank you.”
Cathy quickly added, “By the way, Jennifer, I’ve been feeling some discomfort in my chest lately. Could I get your number? Maybe you could help me out with a check-up sometime. Donald mentioned you’re a gynecologist, and women understand these things best, right?”
Jennifer understood Cathy’s intentions. She knew once she gave out her number, it wouldn’t be easy to take it back. Still, after a brief pause, she handed it over.
Cathy created Jennifer’s contact on her phone. As Cathy input the digits, a message notification popped up, showing the same number as Jennifer’s. The number had previously sent Cathy a message.
The message said: “Hello, Jonathan’s Maybach is parked near Teresa’s neighborhood. Could you please have his family come to Rosary Estates to move it?”
Jennifer explained, “I sent that message. My sister used to drive Jonathan’s car. When I found out, I gave her a good scolding. Since they’re divorced, it is inappropriate. I didn’t know who else to contact to get the car moved. I happened to see the family directory, and since Donald listed your number, I reached out to you.”
Cathy replied, “I see.” Feeling the need to explain, she added, “At the time, Irene happened to be with me. When I saw the message, I didn’t think much of it and just showed it to Irene.”
Jennifer said, “Mrs. Lynn, I understand. There’s no need to explain so much to me.”
Cathy said, “Jennifer, you’re going to marry my son. I don’t want there to be any misunderstandings between us.” Jennifer took a deep breath and said slowly, “Thank you for thinking so highly of me. As for my relationship with Donald, I’ll need to think it over carefully.”
