Chapter 584

Both Catherine and Cecilia nodded. โ€œCathy, since Werner has already said all this, why not give him a chance to turn over a new leaf? At our age, we shouldnโ€™t give others a reason to gossip.โ€

Cathy remained silent. As her elder sisters, Catherine and Cecilia, continued, โ€œIf this happens again, we wonโ€™t tolerate it. We wonโ€™t let Werner off easily.

โ€œFor the sake of our family, and especially for Donald and our still-unmarried Cheryl, why donโ€™t you just go back with Werner?โ€

After a long, heavy silence, Cathy finally gave in and went back with Donald and the others.

Werner was driving while Donald and Cathy sat in the backseat, with Donald holding his motherโ€™s hand.

Donald said, โ€œMom, Iโ€™m sorry. Iโ€™m also at fault. I shouldnโ€™t have kept this from you. Do you think I should tell Cheryl about this? If you say so, Iโ€™ll be the one to tell her.โ€

Cathy sighed wearily. โ€œLet it beโ€ฆโ€

Donald felt a pang of sadness. He knew Cathy still cared deeply for their family.

Spotting a nearby pastry shop that Cathy liked, Donald got out of the car and bought her some pastries.

There were a few people ahead in line. When the person in front finished their purchase and turned around, Donald was surprised to see it was Sanford.

Sanford hadnโ€™t expected to see Donald here. He greeted him casually, โ€œDonald, I didnโ€™t expect to run into you here.โ€

Werner also got out of the car when he saw Sanford. โ€œHey, kid, what are you doing here?โ€

Sanford averted his gaze and retorted, โ€œWhy canโ€™t I be in Nareigh? Itโ€™s not like you own this street, is it?โ€

Werner looked at Donald and said, โ€œDonald, get back in the car first.โ€ Without a second thought, Donald got back into the car with the pastries.

Werner then asked Sanford, โ€œWhat brings you to Nareigh? Shouldnโ€™t you be back in Shaville taking care of your mother, Liora?โ€

Sanford sneered, โ€œWerner, what are you so concerned about my mother for?โ€

Werner said, โ€œSanford, havenโ€™t I told you your mother and I were classmates? Now that sheโ€™s gravely ill, how could I not be concerned?โ€

Sanford smirked. โ€œSo, should I thank you? Who knew there was actually someone in the Lynn family who cared about my mom?โ€

Werner let out a weary sigh. โ€œYouโ€™d better head back to Shaville soon. Keep the money I gave you earlier, and just be sensible and take good care of your mother.โ€

Sanford frowned. He thought, โ€˜What gives this outsider the right to judge whether Iโ€™m behaving properly or not?โ€™

Sanford shot him a cold look. โ€œDonโ€™t bother yourself with my business. So, I hear youโ€™re the one who cheated on your wife? Maybe you should take a good look in the mirror first.โ€

Wernerโ€™s heart skipped a beat. โ€˜Who told him this?โ€™ he thought. Sanford offered no explanation and quickly walked away.

Werner stared at Sanfordโ€™s retreating figure, lost in thought, until Donaldโ€™s voice abruptly snapped him back to reality.

Once they were in the car, Cathy sneered at the windshield, her voice dripping with sarcasm. โ€œSo that was your brotherโ€™s love child. Whatโ€™s he doing in Nareigh?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t ask me,โ€ Werner started the car, clearly annoyed.

Cathy sneered, โ€œLooks like you two had a nice little chat. Since youโ€™re so concerned about him, why donโ€™t you just go take care of him instead?โ€

โ€œCan you just stop already?โ€ Werner snapped impatiently. โ€œIโ€™ve already groveled and begged you at Catherineโ€™s house. What more do you want from me?โ€

โ€œDad, Momโ€™s just asking. Could you try to be a little nicer?โ€ Donald said.

Werner pursed his lips and said nothing more.

After dropping Cathy off at home, Donald wanted to stay and keep her company. But Cathy told him, โ€œGo back to work. Donโ€™t let what happened between me and Werner affect your job.โ€

Donald said, โ€œMy jobโ€™s fine. Family is what matters most.โ€
