Chapter 584
Both Catherine and Cecilia nodded. โCathy, since Werner has already said all this, why not give him a chance to turn over a new leaf? At our age, we shouldnโt give others a reason to gossip.โ
Cathy remained silent. As her elder sisters, Catherine and Cecilia, continued, โIf this happens again, we wonโt tolerate it. We wonโt let Werner off easily.
โFor the sake of our family, and especially for Donald and our still-unmarried Cheryl, why donโt you just go back with Werner?โ
After a long, heavy silence, Cathy finally gave in and went back with Donald and the others.
Werner was driving while Donald and Cathy sat in the backseat, with Donald holding his motherโs hand.
Donald said, โMom, Iโm sorry. Iโm also at fault. I shouldnโt have kept this from you. Do you think I should tell Cheryl about this? If you say so, Iโll be the one to tell her.โ
Cathy sighed wearily. โLet it beโฆโ
Donald felt a pang of sadness. He knew Cathy still cared deeply for their family.
Spotting a nearby pastry shop that Cathy liked, Donald got out of the car and bought her some pastries.
There were a few people ahead in line. When the person in front finished their purchase and turned around, Donald was surprised to see it was Sanford.
Sanford hadnโt expected to see Donald here. He greeted him casually, โDonald, I didnโt expect to run into you here.โ
Werner also got out of the car when he saw Sanford. โHey, kid, what are you doing here?โ
Sanford averted his gaze and retorted, โWhy canโt I be in Nareigh? Itโs not like you own this street, is it?โ
Werner looked at Donald and said, โDonald, get back in the car first.โ Without a second thought, Donald got back into the car with the pastries.
Werner then asked Sanford, โWhat brings you to Nareigh? Shouldnโt you be back in Shaville taking care of your mother, Liora?โ
Sanford sneered, โWerner, what are you so concerned about my mother for?โ
Werner said, โSanford, havenโt I told you your mother and I were classmates? Now that sheโs gravely ill, how could I not be concerned?โ
Sanford smirked. โSo, should I thank you? Who knew there was actually someone in the Lynn family who cared about my mom?โ
Werner let out a weary sigh. โYouโd better head back to Shaville soon. Keep the money I gave you earlier, and just be sensible and take good care of your mother.โ
Sanford frowned. He thought, โWhat gives this outsider the right to judge whether Iโm behaving properly or not?โ
Sanford shot him a cold look. โDonโt bother yourself with my business. So, I hear youโre the one who cheated on your wife? Maybe you should take a good look in the mirror first.โ
Wernerโs heart skipped a beat. โWho told him this?โ he thought. Sanford offered no explanation and quickly walked away.
Werner stared at Sanfordโs retreating figure, lost in thought, until Donaldโs voice abruptly snapped him back to reality.
Once they were in the car, Cathy sneered at the windshield, her voice dripping with sarcasm. โSo that was your brotherโs love child. Whatโs he doing in Nareigh?โ
โDonโt ask me,โ Werner started the car, clearly annoyed.
Cathy sneered, โLooks like you two had a nice little chat. Since youโre so concerned about him, why donโt you just go take care of him instead?โ
โCan you just stop already?โ Werner snapped impatiently. โIโve already groveled and begged you at Catherineโs house. What more do you want from me?โ
โDad, Momโs just asking. Could you try to be a little nicer?โ Donald said.
Werner pursed his lips and said nothing more.
After dropping Cathy off at home, Donald wanted to stay and keep her company. But Cathy told him, โGo back to work. Donโt let what happened between me and Werner affect your job.โ
Donald said, โMy jobโs fine. Family is what matters most.โ
