Chapter 597
Cheryl's parents seemed skittish. Cheryl thought it strange.
Wernes sighed.
Cathy slammed her fork on the table.
Batty...
Cheryl looked utterly bewildered. Donald seemed a little better, but still... "Dad? Theyโre acting kind of weird, donโt you think?"
Donald replied, โTheyโre perfectly fine, nothingโs going on between them.โ
โOh really? Maybe Iโm just overthinking it then.โ
โHey, howโs work treating you these days?โ Donald deftly changed the subject, turning to Cheryl.
โPretty good,โ Cheryl said. โWith the training allowance included, Iโm making about six thousand a month."
Donald smiled. โYouโre making great progress. Keep up the good work. Have you thought about opening an art studio? Itโs definitely worth considering.โ
โLet me save up a bit more first,โ Cheryl said with a smile.
โDonald!โ Werner called out from the living room. โCome join me for a drink.โ
Meanwhile, at Horizonlead Group. Just as Jonathan wrapped up his meeting, his housekeeper called with urgent news that Irene had just left for Shaville.
Jonathan frowned. โWhen did she leave?โ
The housekeeper replied, โShe left this morning.โ
Jonathan replied calmly, โGot it.โ
After hanging up, Jonathan sank into the sofa and rubbed his temples. Given Ireneโs usual reluctance to travel far, he knew exactly who she had gone to Shaville to find.
Knowing Irene, she wouldnโt do anything extreme to someone on their deathbed. She was probably just trying to confirm if Liora had cancer.
Jonathan suspected Irene was hiding more about her history with Liora and his father than sheโd revealed.
Just then, Benny walked in. He handed Jonathan a document.
โWhatโs this?โ Jonathan took the file and began flipping through it.
โYour aunt came to my law firm to ask about getting a divorce.โ
โMy aunt?โ
โDonaldโs mom โ Cathy. I was away on business for a few days, so I didnโt know about any of this. When I got back yesterday, my staff showed me the recent consultation cases, and thatโs when I found out your uncle had been having an affair.โ
โCathy is preparing to file for divorce. And coincidentally, the lawyer she consulted is actually someone I personally trained."
Jonathanโs face grew grim as he handed the file to Benny. โBenny, as a top lawyer, showing me your clientโs personal details... isnโt that a breach of confidentiality?โ
โCome on, these are Werner and Cathy weโre talking about. You wouldnโt really rat me out, would you? My staff said Cathyโs been a total wreck, desperately searching for proof of Wernerโs affair, but so far, sheโs come up empty.โ
Jonathan leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes wearily. โBy all accounts, Werner isnโt that kind of person.โ
But at that moment, even Jonathan couldnโt be so sure. Except for a select few he truly trusted, Jonathan no longer dared to claim he could see through everyone.
Benny took a sip of the coffee on the table and said slowly, โWerner has already started moving his assets. Honestly, itโs almost certain that Donald and little Cheryl have no idea about this.โ
Jonathan opened his eyes, picked up his cup, and took a sip of coffee. He said, โCheryl isnโt even married yet. Werner has always doted on her, and he wouldnโt go that far.โ
Benny smirked. โLooks like Cherylโs marriage prospects are ruined now, right?โ
Jonathan snapped his head toward Benny. โWhy?โ
