Chapter 6: I’m Engaged

Wayne’s laughter filled the room, a wide grin splitting his face. “Teresa, you won’t believe this—Jonathan gave us the go-ahead for the interview!”

Teresa’s surprised expression mirrored her inner confusion.

He patted her shoulder, his excitement evident. “You nailed it, Teresa! You’re on fire!”

But Teresa remained skeptical. “Seriously? Jonathan himself said yes?”

“Absolutely,” Wayne confirmed. “Mr. Lynn’s waiting in the meeting room and specifically requested you. Maybe your voice made an impression, and now he’s curious about the person behind it. Luckily, you’re stunning. We’re counting on you to make the operations team proud.”

Interviews weren't Teresa's forte, but Wayne sweetened the deal: a $3,000 bonus by month's end if the interview went well. Hard to refuse a short interview for such a significant payoff.

Papers in hand, Teresa entered the office, the door creaking open to reveal Jonathan already seated.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Lynn,” she said, her tone professional.

“Ms. Johnston,” Jonathan greeted, his head tilted casually, a teasing glint in his eyes.

For a moment, she found herself admiring his charisma and good looks—he was undeniably the most attractive man she’d ever met.

The cameraman’s cough jolted her back to reality. She’d almost been caught staring, a decidedly unprofessional lapse.

Sitting beside Jonathan on the sofa, Teresa got straight to the point. “Thank you for fitting us into your schedule, Mr. Lynn. We’ll keep this brief and focused, just a few questions to make the most of our time.”

Jonathan leaned back, legs crossed, the picture of relaxed confidence. He hummed thoughtfully, his gaze fixed on Teresa.

Teresa consulted her notes, her questions prepared and organized. “Mr. Lynn, what prompted you to agree to this interview?” she asked, her voice steady and professional.

Jonathan’s eyes narrowed. “To be honest, I was bored,” he admitted.

Teresa’s lips tightened, silently confirming her suspicion that boredom was his motivation. His tone suggested lingering resentment from the previous day.

She let it pass and continued. “What inspired you to start your own company?” she inquired, her focus sharp.

Holding her gaze, Jonathan replied calmly, “It’s because someone showed me a guy needs serious cash to feel confident talking to her.”

Teresa was impressed by his confident demeanor. “You seem remarkably composed, Mr. Lynn, especially for Nareigh’s youngest billionaire,” she said, her voice respectful.

Jonathan shrugged off the compliment. “There’s always more to do,” he replied, his eyes still on hers.

Curious, Teresa leaned forward. “It sounds like you have ambitious plans for the company,” she observed.

Jonathan nodded.

Teresa smoothly shifted the subject, her voice softening. “Everyone knows your mother raised you. What are her thoughts on your career?”

Jonathan relaxed, a smile touching his lips. “She supports me, but stays out of my work,” he said.

Teresa remained skeptical. She stays out of your work, but what about your personal life? she thought, rolling her eyes internally, especially concerning Jonathan’s mother.

She was grateful the divorce had ended their past resentments and petty arguments.

Turning to her final question, Teresa adopted a businesslike tone. “One last question: Are you dating anyone?”

Jonathan’s gaze intensified, scrutinizing Teresa for any reaction.

Teresa maintained a neutral expression.

Jonathan’s demeanor turned serious. “I’m engaged, actually,” he announced deliberately.
