“A friendly relationship?” Katrina immediately turned to Irene, her eyes flashing with suspicion. “Didn’t you say Jonathan was equally fond of Yalena?”

Irene turned to Jonathan with an ingratiating smile and said, “Jonathan, Eason and Katrina have always held you in such high regard, and Yalena adores you. She’s such a wonderful girl, isn’t she?”

Jonathan’s brow furrowed as he stated deliberately, “This engagement won’t work.”

The Kelly family froze in stunned silence.

Irene quickly stepped in to ease tensions, “Yalena said she doesn’t mind your past marriage. Everyone has a history, right?” She then turned to Eason and asked, “Don’t you agree?”

Eason pursed his lips and said, “Mr. Lynn, I trust your integrity. If you worry our family judges your past, don’t. Katrina and I believe that as long as you and Yalena care for each other, nothing else matters.”

Jonathan raised an eyebrow with resignation. “Mr. Kelly, I’m sorry, but I cannot accept this engagement. Ms. Kelly is just a friend, no romance. Besides, I already have a three-year-old son.”

His words plunged the Kellys’ faces from shock into disbelief.

Yalena stared at Jonathan in utter disbelief. She thought, ‘No way. It’s only been a few days. How could Jonathan possibly know he has a son? Who told him?’

“A son?” Irene pressed as she sprang up and yanked Jonathan’s arm. “Explain yourself. Since when do you have a son? Why wasn’t I told?”

Jonathan said with a hint of helplessness, “I only just found out myself. I haven’t even had the chance to tell you yet.”

Hearing this, Katrina stood up angrily. “Don’t play games with us. You’ve had a three-year-old son all this time and only now tell us? What do you take the Kelly family for?”

“No, that’s not it,” Irene hastily explained, her voice strained with panic. “I had no idea about any of this. I didn’t even know I had a grandson. If…”

The Kellys, clearly out of patience, cut Irene off mid-sentence.

“Let’s call off this engagement. Since Mr. Lynn already has a child and doesn’t care for Yalena, we won’t let our daughter marry into a family where she’d be miserable,” Katrina added.

“Yalena, let’s go,” Katrina said firmly, taking Yalena by the hand. A glint of unwillingness and fury flashed in Yalena’s eyes.

After Katrina dragged Yalena away, Yalena had no choice but to keep her mouth shut, unable to say a word. Yalena thought, ‘How could Jonathan possibly know he has a son?'

“But my subordinate called to confirm Teresa’s flight to London took off on schedule. She didn’t change her ticket or ask for a refund. I was sure she’d already left with Mike."

“I must have let my guard down."

Inside the room, Irene was about to demand answers from Jonathan, but he used being busy with work as an excuse and prepared to leave.

Chapter 708

“Stop right there,” Irene demanded as she stormed after Jonathan and grabbed his arm. “Did you just say you have a son? What the hell is going on? You’re not going anywhere until you explain everything to me.”

Jonathan looked at Irene, a helpless expression on his face. “You have a grandson now. Aren’t you happy? You’ve even met the kid,” he said.

“I’ve met him?” Irene asked, and her mind raced, scanning through every child she’d ever encountered. “Which one? Who on earth could it be?”

“It’s Mike, the kid I had the DNA test done for before.”

Irene was momentarily stunned, but she quickly forced a smile.

Irene snapped, “Didn’t you say the DNA tests came back negative, twice? Now you’re dragging Mike into this to reject the Kellys' proposal? How much longer are you going to stay obsessed with Teresa?”

Jonathan had explained, but Irene still refused to believe him. He reached into his pocket, ready to show her the DNA test results.
