Chapter 770
โNo need. Iโve troubled you enough with my family stuff,โ Teresa said. She hadnโt expected things to turn out like this.
โIโm not afraid of you troubling me,โ Jonathan said. โIโm just afraid youโll start overthinking if youโre alone.โ
If he hadnโt seen it with his own eyes today, Jonathan wouldnโt have known Jennifer treated Teresa like thisโyelling at her whenever she was upset, like a loser who only knew how to take it out on family.
He used to think Jennifer was just cold, but he hadnโt realized she cared so little about her own family.
โI have to help you. Jennifer needs to find her real mom soon so sheโll stop bothering you.โ After saying that, Jonathan took Teresa back to his place.
โMommy!โ Michael ran over and hugged her as soon as he saw her in the courtyard house. โMommy, I missed you.โ
Feeling the wetness in his eyes, Teresa felt like something had stabbed her heart. She crouched down, wiped his tears, and held him gently.
โItโs only been two days since we last saw each other,โ she said.
Michael nodded and wiped his eyes with his little hands. โBut I still missed you.โ
โIs that so? I missed you too,โ Teresa said. โMike, howโs it been staying here with Mr. Lime? Are you comfy?โ
โSo comfy. Everythingโs here.โ Michael started to cheer up.
Jonathan stood nearby, watching the scene. It was his first time seeing Teresa comfort a child. Her gentleness seemed to be only for children.
โMike, come let Daddy give you a hug,โ he said.
After Teresa soothed him, Jonathan picked Michael up, stroked his little head, and whispered in his ear, โWhatโs wrong? Did you miss Mommy?โ
โMr. Lime, I thought you left me here and didnโt want me anymore.โ Michael clung to Jonathanโs neck, burying his face in his shoulder, sounding so pitiful.
Jonathan felt a sharp pain in his chest. He explained patiently, โIโm sorry. Itโs my fault for being careless. I saw you were sleeping and didnโt want to wake you.
โDidnโt the nanny tell you Iโd be back soon? I went to get Mommy. I brought her here so we can all stay together.โ
Michael understood right away and stopped crying. โMr. Lime, so you went to get Mommy and didnโt leave me?โ
Jonathan nodded. โHow could I leave you? Didnโt you say you wanted to go to the amusement park? Daddy will take you together, okay?โ
โReally? Donโt lie to me.โ Michaelโs pitiful little eyes were impossible to ignore.
Jonathan thought for a moment and said, โWeโll go tomorrow. Daddy will make time for it.โ
โYay!โ Michael raised his little hand. โMr. Daddy Lime, youโre the best.โ
Michael was easy to cheer up and soon forgot his sadness. Jonathan and Teresa stayed with him the whole time. When Michael got sleepy, he fell asleep on the bed, still holding Teresaโs hand.
Jonathan stood by the bed, feeling guilty. โI didnโt think this through. I didnโt expect Mike to feel wronged staying here alone, to think I didnโt want him anymore.โ
He had bought Michael plenty of toys, hired a nanny, and even set up a playground slide in the yard. But still, he had let his son feel hurt.
Jonathan was full of guilt and selfโblame.
Teresa shook her head. โItโs not your fault. Youโve done so much for my family already. If anyoneโs to blame, itโs me. I raised him alone before, so he only had me. Heโs scared Iโll leave him. Thatโs on me.โ
She felt she hadnโt given Michael enough security. She didnโt want him to grow up like she did.
Jonathan lifted his hand, wanting to touch Teresaโs hair. But his hand froze in midair. In the end, he just patted her shoulder.
โItโs okay. Letโs not blame ourselves anymore,โ he said. โTomorrow weโll take him out for the whole day.โ
โTo Universal Center?โ Teresa asked.
โNo, not there,โ Jonathan said. โToo many people. Youโre pregnantโI donโt feel safe with that.โ
โThen where?โ Teresa asked again.
โI booked another amusement park,โ Jonathan said. โTomorrow itโs all ours. Just the three of us. Weโll have fun.โ
Teresa thought, โHe booked the whole place? How much does that even cost?โ
Jonathan didnโt explain further. โGet some rest. Are you staying with him tonight?โ
โYeah, Iโll stay,โ Teresa said. Michael was still holding her hand, and she couldnโt bear to leave him.
โAlright,โ Jonathan said.
The next day, the three of them got ready to go to the amusement park.
Jonathan told Teresa that heโd take Michael on some of the other rides, and all she had to do was ride the carousel with him.
Michael, a little Leo like a ball of sunshine, had already shaken off yesterdayโs troubles. Today, he had his tiny backpack on and was happily spinning in circles again.
On the way to the park, Michael held Teresaโs hand with one hand and Jonathanโs with the other. Giggling, he said, โIโm so happy right now. I have Mommy and Daddy. Iโm the happiest kid in the whole world.โ
Jonathan felt complicated. He never thought his kid would feel so happy just because he had both parents with him.
He glanced at Teresa without thinking and saw that her face was also complicated, as if she didnโt know what to feel either.
โAwesome! I can see the park gates.โ Michael let go of their hands and ran ahead.
โMike, slow downโdo you hear me?โ Teresa called out, worried.
Jonathan, on the other hand, seemed totally relaxed. He grabbed Teresaโs hand. โLet him run. Look at himโfaster than most fiveโyearโolds. Thatโs my boy.โ
Teresa sighed helplessly, thinking, โWow, this guy is so full of himself. Michaelโs smart because he takes after me. Everyone in my family is
Chapter 769
โMom, howโs it going over there?โ Teresa asked.
After leaving the restaurant, Teresa had gotten a call from Evelyn. She asked if that woman was really Peggy.
Evelyn said helplessly on the phone, โIโm not sure. I think itโs her, but she swears itโs not and says Iโve got the wrong person. I remember she had a red birthmark on her shoulder. If I couldโve seen it, Iโd know.โ
But the woman had driven away. Evelyn had no way to confirm it.
Teresa took a deep breath. โOkay, I got it. Weโll find another chance later.โ
She wanted Evelyn to come stay with her, but Evelyn refused. So Teresa booked her a hotel room and sent her 6 thousand dollars after hanging up.
Teresa stared out the window, full of worry. Suddenly, Jonathan took her hand.
He looked at her and said, โIโll find another chance for your mom to meet that Peggy. Iโll check where sheโs staying. Donโt stress over this. Leave it to me.โ
โMr. Big Starโ Michael shouted suddenly when he got to the gate, waving toward Lucas across the street.
Lucas saw him and smiled, crossing the street toward Michael. โHey, Mike. What a coincidence, seeing you again. What are you doing here?โ
โIโm here with my mom and dad,โ Michael said proudly, pointing to his parents walking toward them.
Lucas turned and saw Jonathan, then Teresa.
Michael lifted his chin even higher. โSee? Isnโt my mom pretty? But donโt fall in love with her, okay? I already have a dad.โ
Lucas couldnโt help laughing. He admitted he had looked at Teresa twice, but only because she seemed oddly familiar, like someone heโd seen before.
โMike.โ Teresa walked over and patted Michaelโs head. โDonโt run off, and donโt be naughty.โ
Michael pointed at Lucas. โMom, this is the guy who gave me a gift. Heโs gonna be a big star one day.โ
Teresaโs eyes finally landed on Lucas.
