Chapter 797
โI couldnโt stand the thought of losing my shot at a promotion and ending up as a full-time housewife. So, I went to a hospital and had an abortion.โ
Donald pursed his lips hard, with something complicated flickering in his eyes. Jennifer kept her gaze fixed on his face.
She said, โIโm sorry, Donald. I made this decision on my own. I had an abortion without even discussing it with you.โ
Donald fell silent, gripping the report in his hands. After a long while, he took a deep breath and said, โItโs already in the past.โ
Jennifer thought, โNo, some things you just canโt get over.โ
She hadnโt missed the flash of anger in Donaldโs eyes when he saw the abortion report. She knew that once something like this happened, there was no truly moving past it.
They couldnโt just pretend like nothing had happened and go back to living their old lives.
She said, โWe should still go through with the divorce. Once the cooling-off period is over, weโll make it official.โ
Donald fell silent. Images from a few days ago flashed through his mind.
Back then, Jennifer shouted, โDonald, you canโt just leave me. I wonโt get a divorce. Iโd die before I divorce you!โ
That was the woman who had clung desperately to his hand, swore sheโd never let go, and never agreed to a divorce, no matter what. The very woman who once swore sheโd withdraw the divorce papers and begged him to give in. Now she was the one insisting they go through with the divorce.
Donald couldnโt bring himself to meet Jenniferโs eyes. He fell into a long, heavy silence. Some choices seemed to be made during that silence.
Jennifer finally broke the silence. โGetting divorced now is honestly the best thing for both of us. We donโt have any kids, so thereโs nothing tying us together, nothing holding us back. If you want to get married again, youโre good-looking and have a steady jobโfinding someone new will be a piece of cake. Sell the house, keep it, whateverโyou paid for it, so itโs up to you.โ
When Jennifer finished, Donald finally looked at her with a bitter look. โSo what about you? Youโre just walking away from everything? Where will you go?โ
Jennifer shook her head and said, โI havenโt figured out where Iโm going yet. I just want to leave Nareigh for a while, travel around, and see what the world is like. Ever since I came back here, Iโve been stuck in my own obsessions.
โNow that Iโve been given another chance, I want to let go of all that and try living differently. Maybe find a way to actually be happy.โ
She had never really been happy. She always felt like everyone owed herโher family, the whole world. But the moment she was saved, it finally hit her. She was never satisfied or content, and that was why she could never be happy.
But some hurts just couldnโt be fixed with a simple apology. Sheโd made up her mind. It was time for her to leave Nareigh.
โOnce Iโve wrapped things up here, Iโm leaving Nareigh. When the divorce certificate is ready, just let me know and Iโll come back for it,โ Jennifer said.
Donald looked down at the abortion report again. Then he swallowed and slowly said, โOkay.โ
Chapter 797
The next day, Jonathan headed to Jarisburg, leaving Teresa alone in the hospital. There were bodyguards stationed outside, and several caregivers looking after her.
Teresa felt she was fine since she had an appetite and slept well, but Jonathan still wouldnโt let her step outside.
Miriam video-called Teresa. Teresa had actually been trying to hide the fact that she was in the hospital from Miriam. She didnโt want Miriam to know.
But Miriam heard the sound of doctors talking outside the door and then asked Teresa if she was in the hospital.
