Chapter 811
Teresa froze for a second. Now she really couldn’t avoid opening the door anymore. She went to her room, changed into a loose-fitting outfit, and used a belt to conceal her baby bump before answering the door.
“Hayden, Werner.” Teresa stood at the door. Hayden smiled and told Werner to hurry up and bring in the things they bought.
“I thought you weren’t home,” Hayden said.
“No, I was just washing the dishes and didn’t hear you,” Teresa said quickly. Glancing at all the things they brought, she added anxiously, “This is way too much. We can’t possibly finish it all. Please, take some of it back.”
“It’s not that much. Just put them in the fridge and eat them whenever you want,” Hayden replied.
Hayden sat down and said, “Why are you still doing the dishes? Is that how Jonathan takes care of you?”
“He hired a nanny for me, but she had something to do today, so I sent her home,” Teresa replied.
Michael ran over, and Teresa told him to greet Hayden. Seeing Michael and Teresa living in a house that wasn’t all that big made Hayden feel even more heartbroken.
“Hayden, I’ll go make you some coffee,” Teresa said, heading to the kitchen. Michael followed her. “Mommy, I’ll help you.”
Hayden studied Teresa’s back for a while. Then he turned to Werner and asked, “Do you think Teresa might be pregnant?”
“I think so, too, Dad. She really looks like she might be expecting,” Werner replied.
“Give Jonathan a call and ask if Teresa is pregnant again,” Hayden said.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea. What if the baby isn’t Jonathan’s? Wouldn’t it be super awkward to ask him that?” Werner said.
Hayden shot back, “How could it not be Jonathan’s?”
Werner thought for a second and said, “If it really was Jonathan’s, he would’ve let us know the moment he found out, right?”
Hayden choked on his words.
Teresa walked over and served coffee to Hayden. “Hayden, what are you two talking about?”
Hayden cleared his throat and said, “Werner and I were just saying you’ve put on a little weight.”
Teresa smiled faintly and said calmly, “Yeah, I’ve gotten a bit chubby from eating too much. Hayden, you’re not suspecting I’m pregnant, are you? I swear I’m not.”
Hayden was momentarily stunned.
Werner quickly tried to smooth things over. “Dad and I were just guessing, since you and Jonathan already have one kid, it wouldn’t hurt to have another one.”
“Werner, you’re overthinking it. There’s no way Jonathan and I would ever get back together,” Teresa said firmly.
Werner thought, ‘If they’re really over, then there’s no way she could be pregnant. Maybe I really am overthinking it.’
Hayden felt a wave of sadness. “Teresa, I want to have a word with you.” He looked over at Werner, who quickly said he’d take Mike to his room to play.
“Mike, why don’t you show me your room? I haven’t had a tour yet,” Werner said.
Once Mike left, Teresa sat down on the couch and asked, “Hayden, what do you want to talk to me about?”
“Teresa, I really feel sorry for you. It’s been hard on you, raising a child all by yourself these past few years,” Hayden said.
Teresa’s eyes suddenly welled up with tears, but she just shook her head and said, “It’s fine. It wasn’t that hard.”
Hayden said, “How could it not be hard? The more I think about it, the more my heart aches for you. You’re just a young woman, working so hard to earn a living and raise your child all by yourself.
“Sometimes I wish I could give Jonathan, that rascal, a good kick for you, just to let out some of your frustration. Jonathan let you down, and our Lynn family owes you, too.
“You must have suffered a lot marrying him. That’s why you ended up divorcing, isn’t it?”
Tears shimmered in Teresa’s eyes, but she still shook her head. She didn’t suffer a lot. She and Jonathan just weren’t right for each other.
She said, “I don’t want to talk about the past anymore, Hayden. Just let him find someone who’s truly right for him, someone his mom will approve of and all of you can be happy with.” The Lynn family was just not right for her.
