Chapter 826

Jonathanโ€™s eyes were so sharp that if Teresa dared say she didnโ€™t trust him, heโ€™d probably teach her a harsh lesson right then and there.

Teresa looked away. โ€œIf itโ€™s not you, then it must be your mom,โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œHow could it possibly be my mom?โ€

โ€œAnd why couldnโ€™t it be your mom?โ€ Teresa retorted, refusing to back down.

Jonathanโ€™s brow slowly furrowed. โ€œWill you only be satisfied after youโ€™ve doubted every single person in my family?โ€

Teresaโ€™s suppressed anger flared up again at his words. โ€œWhy canโ€™t I doubt your mom? She doesnโ€™t like me. Isnโ€™t it possible sheโ€™s using your company against me?โ€

Jonathan explained, โ€œIโ€™m the one in charge at Horizonlead Group. I gave her the family card. How could she possibly have the power to mess with your company?โ€

Teresa fell silent. She turned her face away completely with tears swirling in her eyes. The city lights outside lit up Jonathanโ€™s calm, steady look on the glass. She knew him down to his bones, but right now, she still felt disappointed and sad.

Jonathan continued, โ€œI promise you, this has nothing to do with me or my family.โ€

โ€œHow can you be so sure?โ€ Teresa shot back.

Jonathan was momentarily at a loss for words. Just as he was about to say something else, he glanced sideways at Teresa while driving. When he saw the tears slip from the corner of her eye, he froze, and then his voice instantly softened.

He said, โ€œI was mad that you hid Mike from me, and yeah, I said Iโ€™d get back at you. But did I ever actually do it?

โ€œNow youโ€™re pregnant with my child. If I still tried to hurt you, Iโ€™d have no conscience at all! Do you really think Iโ€™m that kind of guy?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t touch me!โ€ Teresa snapped, jerking his hand away as he tried to wipe her tears.

Jonathan didnโ€™t know what to say. โ€œSo in the end, you still donโ€™t trust me. Fine. Iโ€™ll get to the bottom of this and prove my innocence,โ€ he said.

Teresa said nothing. She took out a tissue from her bag to wipe her tears. She wasnโ€™t crying because she doubted Jonathan.

It was because of Irene. She felt helpless, just like she had so many times before, enduring in silence. She suddenly wondered what all her endurance was even for anymore.

Even while pregnant, she still had to carry the stigma of being accused of scheming for his familyโ€™s money by having his child.

She thought, โ€˜Whatโ€™s the use of explaining? People who donโ€™t trust you will never believe you, no matter what you say, right?โ€™

Jonathan took Teresa to his villa in the east district.

Standing at the door, Teresa said, โ€œIโ€™m leaving tomorrow. Iโ€™m just crashing here for one night. Iโ€™ll transfer you the money for the stay later.โ€

Jonathan frowned. โ€œAre you gonna keep talking to me like this?โ€

But Teresa had already turned and headed back to her room.

Jonathan stared silently at her back. He pursed his lips, and then turned and headed to his study. He called the person in charge at Nareigh and asked about Teresaโ€™s company. Then he gave that person a few quiet instructions.

โ€œOkay, Mr. Lynn,โ€ the person replied.

After thinking for a moment, Jonathan recalled one of the people who had given him a business card at tonightโ€™s party.

The call was picked up right away. โ€Lynn, does this mean youโ€™ve changed your mind about having dinner with me tomorrow?โ€

Jonathan replied. โ€Powell, letโ€™s skip dinner for now. When you have time to come to Maleigh, Iโ€™ll host you. We can talk business then.โ€

Kevin said, โ€œOh, youโ€™re too polite, Mr. Lynn. Is there something you need? If itโ€™s business, just say the word.โ€

โ€œMr. Powell, youโ€™re a smart man. I do have a small favor to ask,โ€ Jonathan said, then the two of them negotiated for a while.
