Chapter 855
"Since he doesn't know, I'll tell him. If Jonathan takes responsibility, I believe he'll help Teresa heal from this pain."
Like her brother, Lucas desperately wanted to do something for his little sister, so this time, heโd be the one to speak up.
Lucas stood up and told her he needed to step out for a while. Teresa went to wash her face. A nurse soon brought in a full spread of nutritious food. There were ten different dishes plus a bowl of chowder.
โMs. Johnston, Mr. Lynn asked us to prepare all this for you. Would you like us to feed you?โ the nurse asked.
โNo, I can eat by myself,โ Teresa replied.
โAlright, if you need anything, just let us know,โ the nurse said.
โThanks for all your hard work,โ Teresa said, eyeing the food. She remembered how Jonathan kissed her forehead before leaving, asking her to wait for his return.
Heโd promised her that sheโd never have to face anything alone again, that he wouldnโt leave her by herself like he did back when she was pregnant with Mike.
After thinking for a moment, Teresa picked up her phone and sent Jonathan a message: [Thank you.]
She wanted to thank him for arranging such a comfortable place and making sure her family and friends were there to keep her company.
Just as she was about to put her phone down, it suddenly rang.
โHello, is this Ms. Johnston?โ came a polite voice on the line.
โYes, thatโs me. Who is this?โ Teresa answered.
โWeโre calling from the law firm. You know Ms. Irene Lynn, right? Weโre calling to inform you that Ms. Lynn has filed a lawsuit against you,โ the voice said.
โWhat did you just say?โ Teresa asked, her breathing quickening as panic set in. โWhy is Irene Lynn suing me?โ
โItโs for custody of your child,โ the voice replied.
Teresa paused for a couple of seconds, and then asked, โSheโs just Grandma. Does she even have the right to fight me for custody?โ
โUnder certain conditions, a Grandma can seek custody. Due to your financial, physical, and mental health, you may be deemed unfit to raise the child. This is a notice. You may hire a lawyer or negotiate with her,โ the voice explained.
Then the call ended abruptly. Teresa stared blankly as her phone slipped from her hand and clattered to the floor. โWhatโs wrong with my finances, health, and mental state?โ she thought in a daze.
The day she feared most had come. She knew Irene wasnโt going to back off because she was pregnant.
โNow that Jonathan isnโt around, what is Irene up to? Is she going toโฆโ Teresa thought.
Teresa, in a panic, threw off the covers and scrambled out of bed, about to rush out of the hospital room when a doctor blocked her way at the door.
โPlease move, I need to go home and get some clothes. Iโll be right back,โ Teresa said anxiously.
Ignoring their attempts to stop her, she brushed past them and left the hospital.
On the way, a terrible sense of foreboding crept over her. Her heart was pounding so wildly it felt like it might leap right out of her throat.
She dialed Michaelโs kiddie phone, but no one picked up. She rushed back to Rosary Estates by taxi. As soon as she stepped inside, she glanced around, only to see the nanny pacing in the living room.
โWhereโs Mike?โ Teresa asked as she practically broke down, clutching the nannyโs arm in desperation.
โMs. Johnston, you just missed them. A bunch of men in black showed up a moment ago. They said Mikeโs Grandma sent them, and they took him away by force,โ the nanny stammered.
โWhat did you just say?โ Teresa asked, her voice trembling.
Seeing Teresa about to faint, the nanny rushed to catch her and keep her steady.
