Chapter 858

Half an hour earlier, Jonathan had just left Yanamen. He decided not to stay the night and told his secretary, Bobby, โ€œWe need to finalize the deal today. Call the client now.โ€

โ€œMr. Lynn, why donโ€™t we wait until tomorrow? You should rest at the hotel for a bit,โ€ Bobby said, worried that Jonathan might be pushing himself too hard.

โ€œIโ€™m not tired. I want to head back to Nareigh early,โ€ Jonathan replied.

The night view was stunning, but Jonathan couldnโ€™t care less. He was always worried about Teresa.

โ€˜She promised sheโ€™d be good and wait for me to come back. Maybe sheโ€™ll listen this time?โ€™ Jonathan thought to himself.

Just then, Jonathanโ€™s phone rang. Seeing Bennyโ€™s name flash on the screen, he frowned and answered.

โ€œIโ€™m busy right now. I donโ€™t have time to talk to you-โ€ Jonathan started.

โ€œIs your mom crazy or what?โ€ Benny didnโ€™t waste any time and spat out. โ€œShe wants to take Teresa to court and fight for custody? You didnโ€™t sign off on this, did you?โ€

Jonathan lost his composure. He strode off to a quiet, deserted spot and demanded that Benny spell it out.

โ€˜Irene is just Mikeโ€™s Grandma. How could she even think she has the right to take him? What the hell is going on?โ€™ Jonathan thought.

Benny said, โ€œI saw it while checking office files. Your mom is suing Teresa for custody. She claims Teresa is broken, unhealthy, and even mentally unstable. Has your mom lost her mind?โ€

Jonathan froze, completely blindsided. If Benny hadnโ€™t warned him, he never wouldโ€™ve imagined Irene would do something like this behind his back.

โ€œI need to talk to my mom. Maybe she has lost her mind,โ€ Jonathan muttered.

But when he tried calling Irene, he couldnโ€™t get through.

Jonathan called Teresa, hoping sheโ€™d ignore Irene and wait for him to return. He prayed she wouldnโ€™t believe anything Irene said, even if she threatened her with a lawsuit, but he couldnโ€™t get through to Teresa either.

โ€œBook me the fastest flight back to Nareigh,โ€ Jonathan ordered. He had lost it.

โ€œMr. Lynn, there arenโ€™t any more flights from Eleneburg to Nareigh tonight. The soonest direct one is at 8 AM tomorrow,โ€ Bobby reported.

โ€œAnd you still have a business meeting coming up,โ€ Bobby reminded him.

Jonathan was getting impatient. โ€œI donโ€™t have time to care about any of that right now,โ€ he said.

Teresa wasnโ€™t answering, and neither was Irene. That uneasy feeling in Jonathanโ€™s chest just kept getting worse.

He called the hospital and was shocked to learn that Teresa had already checked herself out. Jonathanโ€™s frown deepened.

โ€œMs. Johnston said she was going home to grab some clothes and would be back soon,โ€ the hospital staff explained.

โ€œShe tricked you,โ€ Jonathan said flatly and then hung up, speechless.

He had bought her plenty of new clothes and had them delivered to the hospital before he left, so there was no way she didnโ€™t have anything to wear.

Jonathan finally noticed a call from the nanny.

โ€œThank goodness, Mr. Lynn, you finally picked up. I kept calling, but it always said you were on another call,โ€ the nanny said, her voice full of panic.

โ€œWhy are you calling me?โ€ Jonathan asked. He wondered if maybe Lucas had tried to call him earlier and heโ€™d missed it.

โ€œSome people came, said Mikeโ€™s Grandma sent them, and took him. Ms. Johnston ran after them to bring him back. Itโ€™s raining, and she still hasnโ€™t returned,โ€ the nanny said.

Jonathanโ€™s heart leapt into his throat. โ€˜Sheโ€™s being reckless again. She never listens to me,โ€™ he thought.

He couldnโ€™t stay calm anymore. His gut was telling him that if he didnโ€™t get back today, it would be too late.

After a moment of thought, Jonathan turned to Bobby and said, โ€œDrive me to Strico as fast as you can. Iโ€™ll catch a connecting flight from there to Nareigh. I have to get back tonight.โ€
