Chapter 858
Half an hour earlier, Jonathan had just left Yanamen. He decided not to stay the night and told his secretary, Bobby, โWe need to finalize the deal today. Call the client now.โ
โMr. Lynn, why donโt we wait until tomorrow? You should rest at the hotel for a bit,โ Bobby said, worried that Jonathan might be pushing himself too hard.
โIโm not tired. I want to head back to Nareigh early,โ Jonathan replied.
The night view was stunning, but Jonathan couldnโt care less. He was always worried about Teresa.
โShe promised sheโd be good and wait for me to come back. Maybe sheโll listen this time?โ Jonathan thought to himself.
Just then, Jonathanโs phone rang. Seeing Bennyโs name flash on the screen, he frowned and answered.
โIโm busy right now. I donโt have time to talk to you-โ Jonathan started.
โIs your mom crazy or what?โ Benny didnโt waste any time and spat out. โShe wants to take Teresa to court and fight for custody? You didnโt sign off on this, did you?โ
Jonathan lost his composure. He strode off to a quiet, deserted spot and demanded that Benny spell it out.
โIrene is just Mikeโs Grandma. How could she even think she has the right to take him? What the hell is going on?โ Jonathan thought.
Benny said, โI saw it while checking office files. Your mom is suing Teresa for custody. She claims Teresa is broken, unhealthy, and even mentally unstable. Has your mom lost her mind?โ
Jonathan froze, completely blindsided. If Benny hadnโt warned him, he never wouldโve imagined Irene would do something like this behind his back.
โI need to talk to my mom. Maybe she has lost her mind,โ Jonathan muttered.
But when he tried calling Irene, he couldnโt get through.
Jonathan called Teresa, hoping sheโd ignore Irene and wait for him to return. He prayed she wouldnโt believe anything Irene said, even if she threatened her with a lawsuit, but he couldnโt get through to Teresa either.
โBook me the fastest flight back to Nareigh,โ Jonathan ordered. He had lost it.
โMr. Lynn, there arenโt any more flights from Eleneburg to Nareigh tonight. The soonest direct one is at 8 AM tomorrow,โ Bobby reported.
โAnd you still have a business meeting coming up,โ Bobby reminded him.
Jonathan was getting impatient. โI donโt have time to care about any of that right now,โ he said.
Teresa wasnโt answering, and neither was Irene. That uneasy feeling in Jonathanโs chest just kept getting worse.
He called the hospital and was shocked to learn that Teresa had already checked herself out. Jonathanโs frown deepened.
โMs. Johnston said she was going home to grab some clothes and would be back soon,โ the hospital staff explained.
โShe tricked you,โ Jonathan said flatly and then hung up, speechless.
He had bought her plenty of new clothes and had them delivered to the hospital before he left, so there was no way she didnโt have anything to wear.
Jonathan finally noticed a call from the nanny.
โThank goodness, Mr. Lynn, you finally picked up. I kept calling, but it always said you were on another call,โ the nanny said, her voice full of panic.
โWhy are you calling me?โ Jonathan asked. He wondered if maybe Lucas had tried to call him earlier and heโd missed it.
โSome people came, said Mikeโs Grandma sent them, and took him. Ms. Johnston ran after them to bring him back. Itโs raining, and she still hasnโt returned,โ the nanny said.
Jonathanโs heart leapt into his throat. โSheโs being reckless again. She never listens to me,โ he thought.
He couldnโt stay calm anymore. His gut was telling him that if he didnโt get back today, it would be too late.
After a moment of thought, Jonathan turned to Bobby and said, โDrive me to Strico as fast as you can. Iโll catch a connecting flight from there to Nareigh. I have to get back tonight.โ
