Chapter 87

The picture only showed the man's profile. Zooming in, Jonathan thought he looked vaguely familiar—he resembled Christian, his secretary.

“I think this kid is too good-looking to take after his dad. Could he be your long-lost son?” Benny joked.

Jonathan chuckled. “Who would I have a kid with? Who’s giving birth to a child for me?” he asked.

Benny knew that Teresa was the only one in Jonathan’s heart. He asked, “But what if it was Teresa? What if she gave birth to your son without telling you?”

“It’s impossible. I haven’t seen her for over two years since the divorce. How could she have given birth to my child?” Jonathan asked.

“I mean before the divorce. Isn’t it possible she was already pregnant before you split?” Benny speculated, rubbing his chin.

Jonathan dismissed the idea firmly. “No way. I used contraceptives back then.” They had both agreed not to have children while focusing on their careers when they were married.

He thought back to the week before their divorce when she said she felt only gratitude for him but no love. Heartbroken, he had gotten drunk and spent one last night with her without taking contraceptives. The next day, she told him she had taken contraceptive pills, her eyes resolute as she demanded a divorce. He had responded with, “Fine. Let’s divorce. I’m tired. I won’t love you anymore.”

Of course, Jonathan wasn’t going to share that with Benny. Pushing down the pain of the memory, he tapped his pen on the desk. “In any case, it’s not possible,” he said.

“You’re so sure? What if there was a slip-up? It’s been two years,” Benny replied.

Jonathan sneered. “You’re the one who can’t even tell Donald and Edward apart. Now you see a kid who looks like me, and you’re saying he’s my son. Where’s your confidence coming from?”

Benny was silenced. “Well, at least, I can tell them apart now! The dumb one is Edward, and the normal one is Donald,” he said.

Jonathan, uninterested in continuing the argument, said lightly, “If you have nothing else to say, please leave; I still have work to do.”

Benny scoffed. “Fine—don’t believe me. But if I see that kid again, I’ll take him for a DNA test to prove whether he’s yours or not!”

After Benny left, Jonathan stared at the photo. The more he looked, the more the man in it resembled Christian. Maybe he was overthinking it.

Later in the afternoon, Jonathan attended a meeting. Near the end of the workday, the receptionist called, asking him to go to the lobby because of a situation.

Taking the exclusive elevator directly to the ground floor, Jonathan stepped out to be met with a pair of small arms wrapping tightly around his leg.

“Daddy!” Michael called out as he looked up at Jonathan, his eyes brimming with joy.

Jonathan was at a loss for words. The receptionists stood awkwardly to the side. One of them licked her lips and said, “Mr. Lynn, we tried to convince him, but he insists that you’re his father.”

Michael pulled out a crumpled document and said, “That’s right! Mr. Lime is my daddy. With this, Mr. Lime can officially be my daddy! Right, Mr. Daddy Lime?”

Jonathan took the document—the DNA test results—and read through it. Without saying a word, he picked up Michael and stepped back into the elevator.

The receptionists whispered among themselves. “What’s going on? Could he really be Mr. Lynn’s son?”

“No idea. Mr. Lynn looks stern.”

“But that boy really does look a lot like Mr. Lynn. It seems quite possible that he’s his son.”
