Chapter 876

Jonathan thought for a moment and said, “Wait here. I’ll go out and see what she’s up to.”

Teresa pushed herself up from the bed. “Hold on a sec, I’ll come out and check, too.”

“Just rest up, okay? Your leg still hurts, doesn’t it? Stay in bed,” Jonathan said as he tucked the blanket over Teresa’s legs. Then he walked out.

Teresa wasn’t sure if Jennifer was truly outside their place, but just five minutes later, Jonathan came back pretty quickly with a bag of local beef jerky in his hand.

Noticing the hint of seriousness on his face, Teresa quickly asked, “Did Jennifer say something important? She couldn’t have come all this way just to drop off some beef jerky, right?”

Jonathan handed the bag of local beef jerky to Teresa and just stared at her in silence. Teresa raised an eyebrow, looking puzzled. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

Jonathan kept his eyes on her, his gaze growing a bit complicated. After thinking for a moment, he finally said, “It’s nothing. Jennifer said she’s going over to my grandma’s place to help her look after the kids in the small town.”

‘Is that so?’ Teresa wondered to herself. ‘Is that really the important thing Jennifer wanted to talk about?’

She asked Jonathan, “Has she still not finalized the divorce certificate with Donald yet?”

Jonathan replied, “It should be soon. I’m not sure either. She said she’ll leave as soon as she gets the divorce certificate.”

“I see,” Teresa said, leaning back against the headboard. If she hadn’t been feeling unwell today, she still had things she wanted to say to Jennifer in person.

She let the thought go. She was getting sleepier and sleepier these days, now that she was in the late stage of her pregnancy.

Jonathan stayed in the room until Teresa fell asleep. Once she was sound asleep, Jonathan quietly closed the door and headed to the study to make a call.

“Can you arrange a meeting with Eason Kelly, chairman of the Kelly Group? I want to have dinner with him tomorrow. Just the two of us, no one else,” he said.

Earlier, Jennifer told him that while passing by Rosary Estates, she overheard a woman on the phone saying she wanted to take revenge on Teresa.

She told Jonathan about the woman’s appearance and what she said. She hoped Jonathan would be able to protect Teresa and the child she was carrying.

‘Who could possibly want to get back at Teresa?’ Jonathan thought. When it came to Jennifer, Jonathan always took her words with a grain of salt. But in this situation, he’d rather believe it and be cautious than ignore it and regret it later.

He checked the surveillance footage from Rosary Estates and spotted Yalena’s car passing by that afternoon. Yalena had targeted Teresa’s company before.

This time, he had no idea what she was up to. Better safe than sorry. Neither Teresa nor the baby she was carrying could withstand even the slightest disturbance anymore.

The next day, at the Kelly residence, Yalena strolled in, twirling her car keys. Spotting Katrina in the living room, she called out, “Mom, you’re home.”

She happened to be thirsty, so when she saw the glass of orange juice on the table, she picked it up and took a few sips. Then she plopped down next to Katrina, wrapped her arm around Katrina, and started acting all cutesy.

“I haven’t seen you in forever, Mom. I’ve missed you so much,” Yalena said, her voice full of affection.

Katrina was staring at her with a confused look, almost as if she didn’t recognize her. Yalena felt awkward and quickly sat up straight.

She gave a nervous laugh. “Mom, did I do something wrong?”

“No, it’s nothing.” Katrina squeezed Yalena’s hand. “It’s just that I feel like your tastes have changed a lot lately.”
