Listen to this chapter:

Teresa couldnโ€™t make out the rest of Miriamโ€™s words because of the noise outside the car window. She only heard Miriam say, โ€œSo, Teresa, be careful. Donโ€™t let Irene push you around.โ€

โ€œAlright, I see,โ€ replied Teresa. Even though she didnโ€™t catch what Miriam had said before, Teresa knew Miriam cared about her.

After hanging up, Teresa soon arrived at the airport.

Jonathan made another call and then told Teresa, โ€œGary is in Jarisburg. Heโ€™ll pick you up and take you to the postpartum care center.โ€

Of all his cousins, Jonathan trusted Gary the most right now. No one was as capable or as calm under pressure as Gary.

Before long, Benny showed up to see Teresa off as well.

โ€œBunny, how did you get here?โ€ Michael asked in a sweet voice and tilted his head.

โ€œI came here on my kick scooter,โ€ Benny teased Michael.

โ€œBunny, how about we have a race someday and see whoโ€™s the real scooter champion?โ€ Michael asked.

โ€œSounds great. When I go to Jarisburg to visit you, weโ€™ll have our race, okay?โ€ Benny replied. He ruffled Michaelโ€™s hair affectionately.

Jonathan bent down, held Michael up, and told the bodyguard to take Michael ahead to board the plane. He still had some words to talk over with Teresa and Benny.

Michael hugged Jonathanโ€™s leg tightly and rubbed against it, unwilling to go.

Jonathan crouched down and whispered something to Michael until the little guy finally cheered up and went to board the plane.

Once Michael left, Benny turned to Teresa and said, โ€œJenniferโ€™s case is scheduled for early December. Itโ€™s coming up in less than two weeks. Just wait for it. Sheโ€™ll have to stay in custody until the trial. Once sheโ€™s sentenced, everything will be settled. She will probably be in jail for about six months.โ€

Teresa listened quietly and frowned. She thought, โ€˜Six months. By the time Jennifer gets out of prison, the baby will have already been born!โ€™

Jonathan placed a reassuring hand on Teresaโ€™s shoulder and said, โ€œIโ€™ll have everything handled here. You donโ€™t need to worry about anything. Just take good care of yourself, and if anything happens, give me a call.โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ Teresa nodded.

But Jonathan was still worried about Teresa, so he reminded her over and over.

Ever since he was investigated by the Department of Justice, Jonathan had been constantly on edge. Even though Teresa was fine, Jonathan never told her that he kept having nightmares and dreaming about something bad happening to her and the baby.

โ€œCall me as soon as you get to Jarisburg. If anything comes up, just let me know,โ€ Jonathan said.

After saying that, Jonathan hugged Teresa. With one of his big hands cradling the back of her head and the other gripping her shoulder, he held her in a way that felt like he was shielding her from the world.

Teresa didnโ€™t push him away. At that moment, she really didnโ€™t want to leave. She couldnโ€™t read her mind now. She felt this might be the last time she would ever see Jonathan, and she was just as anxious as him.

โ€œOh, come on,โ€ Benny said with a helpless grin. โ€œYouโ€™re unbelievable. Youโ€™ll see each other again.โ€

Jonathan didnโ€™t respond to Benny.

โ€œThatโ€™s enough. The plane is about to take off,โ€ Benny reminded them kindly.

Only then did Jonathan slowly let go of Teresa. However, he couldnโ€™t rest assured. He turned to Benny and said, โ€œGet me a plane ticket. Iโ€™m going with them, too.โ€

โ€œJonathan, you have to swing by the Department of Justiceโ€™s office later. That case with Spencer needs you to show up,โ€ Benny reminded him.

โ€œThat can wait. Iโ€™ll handle it when Iโ€™m back,โ€ Jonathan replied.

Just as Jonathan was about to get a ticket and leave with Teresa, a figure suddenly darted over. The person brushed past Jonathan and seized Teresaโ€™s wrist to stop her from leaving.
