Chapter 937
Yalena knew Jonathan wouldnโt be able to come now, so she flung another stack of photos at Teresa.
In those photos, Lucas looked so vulnerable, eyes closed, cold sweat streaming down his face. Teresa felt like she could crush those pictures in her hand out of sheer anger. โWhat the hell did you do to him?โ
She tried to yank Yalena out of the car, but Yalena, seeing that Teresa was pregnant, just brushed her off impatiently, completely unfazed. She didnโt care at all that Teresa was pregnant.
โListen up. Iโll tell you exactly what I did to your brother.โ Yalenaโs voice was cold and merciless. And then, in the next second, she dropped a bombshell that made Teresaโs heart stop and her world shatter.
โI didnโt just have him beaten up. I also got a bunch of strong men toโฆ you know, ruin him in every way possible. I tried all sorts of things on him, candles, whips, nails, andโฆโ
โEnough!โ Teresa couldnโt take it anymore. She stared at Yalena with a look that could kill. โHow dare you do this to my family? I swear, I will never let you get away with it.โ
Yalena burst out laughing. โHa! Look at you, all pregnant. What can you possibly do to me? Your brotherโs barely alive after what I put him through, and itโs all your fault. You and Jonathan pissed me off. Your brother totally deserves it.โ
With that, Yalena drove off, looking smug as hell. Teresa wanted to chase after her, but suddenly, all her strength left her. A sharp pain shot through her stomach. The photos were scattered all over the ground.
Even though the pain was almost unbearable, Teresa gritted her teeth and crouched down, forcing herself to gather up all the photos of Lucas from the ground. She didnโt want any outsiders to see him looking so miserable.
The more she saw his face in those photos, the more her heart sank. She shouldโve realized it earlier. When she called Lucas before, something about the way he talked just felt off.
But Teresa never wouldโve thought heโd end up getting hurt like this. Cold sweat streamed down her forehead. Her vision went completely dark.
Not until she painstakingly picked up the last photo from the ground and put it away did she finally stop. She was swaying, barely able to stand, and finally her body gave out.
โMs. Johnston!โ The voices of several doctors rang out right by her ear. โHurry, get a stretcher!โ One of the doctors shouted right next to her.
โSheโs going into premature labor. Itโs critical. Someone contact the blood bank for a transfusion, now!โ
Teresaโs vision went blurry. Sweat drenched her neck and soaked her clothes. She grabbed a doctorโs arm, her voice barely a whisper. โTell Jonathanโฆ save Lucas.โ
โMs. Johnston, you need to focus on yourself right now. Hurry, get more doctors over here to help with the delivery!โ
Suddenly, harsh lights blazed down on Teresa, so bright she couldnโt even open her eyes. She was barely conscious, but she could feel a ventilator being fitted over her face. After all this time trying to protect her baby, it was still coming early.
โMs. Johnston, take a deep breath. You have to deliver the baby now.โ
Teresa shook her head in confusion, totally drained. โDid they give me something for the pain? Why does it still hurt so much? Am I really going to die in childbirth, struggling like this?โ Teresa thought, despair washing over her.
She refused to accept her fate. She still had no idea what had happened to Lucas. She needed to save him. Yalena was still out there, free and unpunished.
She had always believed that by protecting her baby and doing good deeds, karma would be on her side. But Irene and Yalena had still treated her so cruelly. Memories flashed through her mind.
