Chapter 96

“If you’re not ready, then we’re not going,” Teresa said.

Michael immediately grew anxious. “He invited me! How can I not go? He surely thinks I’m charming and adorable.”

Teresa pretended to gag. “Narcissist,” she teased. She wondered where he got his narcissism from, but was certain it wasn’t from her.

The next day, Teresa unblocked Jonathan. She had initially blocked him when she planned to escape Nareigh with Michael. However, after numerous calls from friends and learning he had a fever, she returned with Michael.

Thinking about his fever, Teresa texted, “How are you feeling?”

Jonathan replied with a question mark, then typed, “You took care of me so perfunctorily, yet still managed to run away so early.”

Teresa replied, “As your ex-wife, I’ve shown enough kindness by checking on you. What more do you expect? Ten days or more of care? I have no such obligation.” Jonathan texted back, “You left me a note saying you’d cooked some pumpkin gruel, but you forgot to turn off the induction cooker. It automatically shut off, the water dried up, and when I checked, everything was burnt. I had to scrub it several times with a steel wool pad.”

Teresa was stunned and suddenly remembered forgetting to turn it off. She usually used the rice cooker and rarely the induction cooker, so she sometimes forgot to switch it off.

She replied, “Sorry, I totally forgot. Glad you’re okay now.”

Jonathan didn’t reply. After a few minutes, he sent a message saying he was in a meeting.

Teresa shook her head and thought, ‘The mighty CEO is having a serious meeting. The employees could probably never imagine their boss scrubbing a pot with a steel wool pad at home.’

That afternoon, Christian called to inform Teresa that Jonathan asked him to bring Michael to the company later.

Teresa had already prepared Michael’s outfit for the outing—a brown suede jacket, a black turtleneck sweater, the latest kids’ jeans, and a pair of white sneakers. Michael had smooth hair that was easy to style. After washing, a quick blow-dry was enough to perfect the look.

Teresa gently pulled Michael’s ear and whispered, “Let me remind you of a few things, just between us…”

While listening, Michael responded eagerly, “Got it, got it. Understood!”

Afterwards, she took Michael to Sherry’s place. Then, Christian brought him to the company, which was quite a detour.

After finishing his meeting, Jonathan saw Michael in the office. Michael happily greeted him, “Mr. Daddy Lime!” Jonathan’s heart immediately softened.

Michael usually looked handsome, but he was even more striking that day. Jonathan patted his hair and said, “You look great today.”

Michael replied proudly, “Mom dressed me up this way.”

“Well, your mom has a good sense of fashion,” Jonathan praised. It wasn’t flashy or overly colorful. If Jonathan had a child, he would also prefer simple, fashionable, and neat attire.

“Mr. Daddy Lime, have you recovered from your cold?” Michael asked with concern.

Jonathan snapped back to reality and smiled slightly. He believed it must have been Christian who told Michael about his cold. “I’m all better now. Thank you for your concern,” he replied.

After work, Jonathan carried Michael and took the exclusive CEO elevator down. The front desk staff were very familiar with Michael; he had been to the company more than a couple of times. However, since Jonathan never publicly disclosed the child’s identity, the employees didn’t dare speculate, fearing they might say something wrong and get fired.

Irene had been waiting at the Lynn residence for some time, eager to see where Jonathan had gotten a child from and who could have given him a son.

After the black Maybach stopped at the Lynn residence, Jonathan got out of the car with Michael in his arms. “We’ll just have a meal and then leave. Don’t be afraid,” Jonathan reassured Michael.

“Okay.” Michael buried his head in Jonathan’s shoulder and reminded himself inwardly, ‘I must remember Mom’s words from now on.’

The mansion was bustling. “Jonathan, your mom said you have a son out there. What’s going on?” Hayden emerged, accompanied by Cheryl, who was supporting his arm.
