Listen to this chapter:

Jonathanโ€™s gaze was locked onto Teresa. Teresa swore that every word she said in court was true, and if there was even a single lie, sheโ€™d accept any consequences.

โ€œAlright, Ms. Johnston,โ€ the plaintiffโ€™s lawyer spoke up again. โ€œPlease answer my previous question.โ€

Teresa replied calmly, โ€œEarlier this year, I did give Jennifer a car, a Mercedesโ€“Benz C260. Back then, we both thought we were real sisters and were really close, so I gifted her the car in my own name. But I had no idea she was faking the reports.โ€

The lawyer asked, โ€œBut Jennifer faked the report about your son. You really didnโ€™t know?โ€

Jonathan suddenly stood up. โ€œI can testify that she didnโ€™t know.โ€

โ€œPlaintiff, please sit down.โ€ It was the first time the judge had seen a plaintiff more restless than the defendant. His eyes were practically glued to her.

Concern made Jonathan restless, and he slowly sat down, his gaze still fixed on Teresa.

Sheโ€™d only just gotten out of the hospital. If something really happened to Teresa, Jonathan wouldnโ€™t let anyone here off the hook, especially Irene, and that lawyer she brought along.

The plaintiffโ€™s lawyer kept pressing Teresa. โ€œMs. Johnston, Jennifer faked reports multiple times later on. Are you saying you really didnโ€™t know about any of that?โ€

โ€œI did know about it later,โ€ Teresa replied.

โ€œOh? Then why didnโ€™t you report her right away? Thereโ€™s only one explanation. You put her up to faking your childโ€™s report.โ€

โ€œI never put her up to faking any reports for me.โ€

โ€œWhat about pleading with her? Did you use your bond as sisters, or maybe even try to bribe her?โ€

The defendantโ€™s lawyer countered, โ€œPlaintiff, youโ€™re getting off track. The party involved in this case is Jennifer. She abused her authority and faked the reports.โ€

The plaintiffโ€™s lawyer asked, โ€œThen why would the defendant fake those reports? If it was just for her sister, why would a doctor go that far? Doing it again and again? Itโ€™s obvious someone was pulling the strings behind her.โ€

โ€œNo one put me up to it.โ€ Jennifer finally spoke up. โ€œI faked all the reports myself. My sister didnโ€™t know anything about it. Later, she tried to stop me several times, but I kept forging the DNA tests on my own.โ€

The plaintiffโ€™s lawyer asked, โ€œThen whyโ€™d you do it?โ€

โ€œBecause my heart ached for my sister. I didnโ€™t want the child to be snatched away by his father and that vicious grandmother of his.โ€ Jenniferโ€™s eyes were locked on Irene, making sure everyone heard just how much she meant it.

Irene was clearly getting restless, but the plaintiffโ€™s lawyer kept pressing Jennifer. โ€œYouโ€™re just the kidโ€™s aunt, not his real mom. So why are you acting even more afraid of him being taken away than his own mother is? That excuse just doesnโ€™t add up.

โ€œYour Honor, the situation here is pretty straightforward. Teresa was paranoid about losing her child, so she pressured the defendant, Jennifer, into faking reports for her over and over again.

โ€œThatโ€™s why Jennifer abused her authority and faked those reports, which kept Jonathan from reuniting with the child in time.โ€

โ€œPlaintiff, until you have any evidence, please donโ€™t make any definitive statements. Thatโ€™s just your speculation.โ€ The defendantโ€™s lawyer and the plaintiffโ€™s lawyer were on the verge of arguing.

The plaintiffโ€™s lawyer sneered and kept his eyes on Jennifer. โ€œDefendant, according to our investigation, you registered your marriage with Donald, the eldest son of Jonathanโ€™s uncle, just last year.

โ€œSince youโ€™re already married into the Lynn family, why would you still go out of your way to fake those reports? Thereโ€™s nothing in it for you. Or is it that someone has something on you, and you had no choice but to do it?โ€
