Chapter 986

Irene shouted, โ€œWhat, are you trying to hand me over to the cops? Listen, Jonathanโ€™s dad has been dead for thirty years, and your mom is gone too. Back then, I didnโ€™t do anything wrong. Whoโ€™s going to judge me?โ€

Gary yanked his hand away, shot Irene a glare, and let out a cold laugh. โ€œYouโ€™re right. All the witnesses and evidence are gone. What can I even do to you? Even if someone does put you behind bars, it wonโ€™t be me. But trust me, someone will.โ€

โ€œWho would dare arrest me? And Jonathan would never let that happen.โ€ With Jonathan as her son, Irene had always acted like she was untouchable.

Gary spat at Irene, his eyes full of contempt. โ€œHonestly, I wish Jonathan would be the one to throw you in jail, because youโ€™re not fit to be a mother at all.โ€

Irene let out a mocking laugh. โ€œMe, not fit? And your mom was? Please. Itโ€™s not your place, as the son of a mistress, to lecture me.โ€

Gary clamped down hard on Ireneโ€™s shoulders. โ€œYouโ€™re downright vicious, hurting people on purpose!โ€

Irene forcefully shoved Gary off. โ€œEven Jonathan hasnโ€™t said a word to me. Who do you think you are to judge me?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s only because Jonathan is too soft-hearted! If it werenโ€™t for him, do you think Iโ€™d let you act all high and mighty here? I know how much heโ€™s hurting. Do you? Have you ever seen Jonathan afraid of anyone?

โ€œBut he almost strangled the woman who made his child come early. Did you know that? He could kill someone else, but what about you? Youโ€™re his mother. When you screw up, whatโ€™s he supposed to do?โ€

Irene was stunned for a few seconds, not expecting that Jonathan had actually almost killed Yalena.

She mumbled to herself, โ€œJonathan was too reckless. Itโ€™s all that Teresa womanโ€™s fault. Sheโ€™s the reason he almost became a killer. Itโ€™s all because of her!โ€

Gary was so exasperated he felt like coughing up blood. He thought, โ€˜Maybe Jonathan feels just as helpless. How can a person think like this?โ€™

Maybe in Ireneโ€™s eyes, as long as she didnโ€™t like someone, that person could do no right, no matter what they did.

โ€œI used to think I was pitiful because I didnโ€™t have a dad. But now, I think Jonathan is even more pitiful. He doesnโ€™t have a dad, and with a mom like you, itโ€™s as if he doesnโ€™t have a mom either,โ€ Gary said.

As soon as Gary finished, Ireneโ€™s face changed instantly. โ€œWho are you calling motherless? Are you wishing me dead or something?โ€

โ€œAm I wrong? Having you as a mom is no different from not having one at all. All you ever do is make your son miserable, angry, and torn apart. As his mother, have you ever once thought about how he feels?โ€ Gary shot back.

Irene pressed her lips together and suddenly lowered her head. Gary grabbed her arm and snapped, "Get out of here, and donโ€™t ever come back."

โ€œIโ€™m not leaving! Where the hell are you taking me?โ€ Irene shouted, but Gary had already shoved her into the car.

Back with Teresa, she and Evelyn went back to Rosary Estates.

Teresa was totally exhausted, inside and out. But the moment they got home, Evelyn immediately started grilling her about what had happened.

So, Teresa finally spilled everything, leaving nothing out.

Evelynโ€™s heart ached. โ€œI get it now. Hannahโ€™s been back for a while, right? And now sheโ€™s been sentenced to nine months?โ€

Teresa rubbed her forehead. โ€œI thought sheโ€™d only get six months. Iโ€™ll ask if we can appeal.โ€
