Chapter 141: Food Tampering
Frederick didnโt think much of it. Caroline had been by his side for four years and had acted this way before. Checking the time, he realized it was time to get off work and have dinner. Given Carolineโs recent poor mental state, he decided to drive home.
โFrederick, do you not like me anymore? It seems you havenโt been back much since I moved to Halfmoon Manor. Do you hate me?โ
Caroline began to act pitiful at the dinner table after serving him, plotting her next move. She felt she couldnโt wait any longer. Now that Frederick was with Claire, what if time passed and she couldnโt separate them? There was a hidden ambiguity in their relationship that wasnโt present between Frederick and Claire.
Although Anna had once mentioned something about Frederick and Claire, it didnโt matter now. Annaโs death had created a barrier that kept them apart. In contrast, Caroline had been with Frederick for four years. Her relationship with Frederick was naturally different because of their relationship. Caroline felt that as long as she was with Frederick and slept with him, she was better than Claire in any way.
โDonโt overthink it. Iโve been busy lately,โ Frederick replied, frowning at her irritating tone. He was confused about his feelings. Caroline had always been soft and needy, which he accepted. However, he recently found himself increasingly irritated by her tone. Lately, he found himself thinking of Claireโs voice and imagining how she would sound if she spoke like Caroline.
โOh, then you must take care of yourself. Eat well and rest. Youโve lost weight. Eat more,โ Caroline said, oblivious to his mood, as she offered him food.
With his recent promotion to Admiral and responsibilities managing the Kingstown Security Department, while preparing for a presidential run, he indeed had a lot on his plate.
โUh-huh,โ he replied, quickly finishing a few bites before heading upstairs.
โFrederick, why donโt you eat a little more? You canโt just eat this little,โ she said, surprised he ate so little. She looked at the shrimp she had just passed to Frederick without even taking a bite, and her heart began to feel uncomfortable.
He was usually careful, and fearing he would discover her tampering, she only altered that dish, which he ignored. Caroline, hesitant to let go and fearing it was her last opportunity, followed him upstairs. After all, Frederick wouldnโt give her another chance if he found out.
โFrederick, are you in a bad mood? Did something happen? You ate so little, and you may be hungry. At least eat some more,โ she said, her hand with the shrimps shaking as she knocked on his door.
Frederick opened the door, saw Carolineโs concerned look, then took the bowl. He was really in a bad mood now and just wanted to eat a few bites of food quickly and let her leave. He said, โIโm fine. You should go to sleep.โ After he finished eating, he handed the bowl back to her. Caroline felt joy seeing him finish the shrimp.
โUh, good. Then you go to bed early too, Frederick,โ she said, carrying the empty bowl downstairs to prepare for her next step.
