Chapter 250: Never Been This Mocked
โCall the doctor!โ Frederick froze for a moment before snapping back to his senses and shouting the order to Richard.
โLโฆyouโฆโ Claire was utterly confused by Frederickโs behavior. Just as she was about to speak, the doctor rushed in. From the deputy director to the attending physician, the charge nurse, and other staff, a swarm of medical professionals poured into the room. They immediately started a thorough examination.
Claire assumed it was just the routine checkup she needed after waking up. The doctor waved a finger in front of her, and Claireโs eyes followed it. When the doctor asked her to open her mouth, she complied. When told to count fingers, she counted. The deputy director personally oversaw the entire process.
โEverything seems perfectly fine,โ the deputy director concluded. After the examination, the deputy director frowned slightly, carefully observing Claire.
โIs there something wrong with me? I donโt feel like anythingโs off. Or is it because of that gunshot? Am I going to have complications?โ Claire asked, puzzled. Claireโs face was full of questions.
โNo, youโre completely fine now,โ the deputy director reassured confidently. The deputy director seemed quite sure of his assessment after seeing Claireโs reaction. They conducted a full-body examination to confirm Claire had recovered remarkably well with no issues.
But Frederick, on the other hand, seemed to have quite a few issues. When Claire returned, she saw Frederick sitting on the couch, his face clouded with anger. She found it odd and thought he was utterly unreasonable. She had taken a bullet for him, which led to her coma. How could he act like this the moment she woke up? After all, she had saved his life!
Then again, what did it matter? In his eyes, her life was nothing more than compensation for Caroline. Thinking this, Claire lay back on the bed without saying a word to Frederick. Frederick continued glaring at her in silence, his expression as dark as a storm. A nurse soon entered, saying she needed to administer an IV. Claire nodded and lay down, turning her back to Frederick.
She didnโt owe him anything. In fact, she had saved his life this time. Why should she have to deal with his mood swings the moment she woke up? Frederick had already been furious, and seeing Claire act like this made his anger boil over.
โClaire, youโre really something! You think just because you took a bullet for me, I wouldnโt dare touch you now?โ Frederick snapped. As soon as the nurse left, Frederick exploded.
โHow could I possibly think that? Youโre the great General, commanding all of Kingstown Security Department. Crushing me would be as easy as stepping on an ant.โ Claireโs tone dripped with sarcasm.
โIโve just been shot and donโt have the energy. Iโd hope the mighty General would show some mercy and not pick on a patient who just saved his life,โ she said mockingly. Claire kept her eyes closed and stayed turned away, taunting him without even bothering to look at him.
โClaire!โ Frederick shouted. Frederick was truly furious. In one swift motion, he stepped around the bed and stood before Claire.
โClaire! Yes, you took a bullet for me and saved my life. But who gave you the right to mock me like this?โ Frederick demanded, his voice brimming with anger. He grabbed her arm, his fury practically spilling over as he questioned her.
โMock you?โ Claire frowned, clearly baffled. She had just woken up. Sure, she was recovering well, but after being in a coma for so long, how could she have the energy to mock anyone?
โYou mustโve overheard the doctors while you were out, didnโt you? The moment you woke up, you pretended to be dazedโacting like the blood loss caused brain damage. If thatโs not mocking me, then what is?โ Frederick accused.
Frederick was genuinely enraged. He had never been made a fool of like this before.
โPretending to be out of it?โ Claire still looked confused. She was the one whoโd been shot. Why was Frederick acting like he was the one who got hit and lost his mind? The absurdity of it all made her feel parched.
Just then, Richard walked in and explained, โMs. Prescott, you were badly injured earlier and even took a bullet for General Hawthorne. You lost a lot of blood. The doctors said there was a chance you might not wake upโor worse, that the blood loss might cause irreversible brain damage. So, when you woke up and just stared at General Hawthorne without answering, he really thought the blood loss affected your brain. He immediately called the doctorsโฆโ
โPfft!โ Claire had just taken a sip of water when she heard this, and she spit it out instantly. Unfortunately, Frederick was standing directly in front of her.
โGeneral Hawthorne!โ
