Chapter 29: Let Her Suffer a Little
When Harrison learned that Claire was with Frederick, his expression immediately darkened. Memories of Frederickโs earlier words flooded back, igniting a fire of rage within him. He recalled that keeping Claire around was supposedly to protect Caroline, and that Frederick would never let her off easily. After all, this woman had caused the death of his sister, Anna, and her own mother was the instigator. The thought of his deceased sister only fueled his hatred. How could Claire live so comfortably while his own sister had lost her life?
Without hesitation, Harrison rushed downstairs and got into his car, determined to confront Frederick. As he was leaving, he ran into his mother, Margaret, who was warming milk. โHarrison, itโs late. Where are you going? They said it might snow tonight.โ
โItโs nothing, Mom. Iโll be back soon,โ he replied, already dialing Frederickโs number.
However, the line was busy. Harrison wondered who Frederick could be talking to at this hour and figured it had to be one of a few placesโeither Eclipse Nightclub, his villa, or the Security Department. He pulled out his phone and called his assistant, instructing them to find out Frederickโs location.
Meanwhile, Frederick had just finished interrogating a suspect when he noticed a missed call from Harrison. As he was about to check it, Carolineโs call came through.
โFrederick, I just went out shopping, and I think some thugs are following me. Iโm so scared! What if theyโjust like what happened to Anna four years ago?โ Carolineโs voice trembled with fear.
โDonโt hang up! Run as fast as you can! Iโll be there right away!โ Frederickโs heart raced as memories of Annaโs bloodied body flashed in his mind. He ignored Harrisonโs missed call, gripping his phone tightly as he called for help to track Carolineโs location, then dashed out to his car, driving like a maniac to reach her. All the way there, he had only one thought in his mindโAnna was already gone, and he absolutely could not let Caroline get hurt. Otherwise, how could he ever face Anna in the afterlife?
Thirty minutes later, Frederick arrived at the bar where Caroline was being attacked. It was eerily similar to where Anna had met her fate four years ago. He found Caroline on the ground, her clothes nearly torn off, with only a blood-stained piece of lingerie barely covering her.
โStop!โ Frederick slammed on the brakes, jumped out of the car, and opened fire, taking down the thugs with precise shots to the head. โCaroline, are you okay?โ he rushed over to her as the thugs fell lifelessly to the ground. Seeing her pale and trembling, Frederickโs heart ached.
โIโm so sorry, Caroline. Iโm late. Are you hurt? Let me check!โ He reached out to embrace her, but as soon as he touched her, Caroline screamed in terror.
โDonโt touch me! Get away! You monsters! Let me go!โ she cried out frantically.
โItโs me, Caroline! Itโs Frederick! Donโt be afraid, Iโm here nowโฆโ He held her tightly, gently patting her back to calm her down.
โFrederick, you finally came! I thought I was going to die here like Anna!โ Caroline sobbed, finally recognizing him and breaking down in his arms.
โShh, itโs okay. Iโm here now. Youโre safe,โ Frederick reassured her, and without wasting any time, he took her to the hospital.
What he didnโt see was that Caroline was nestled in his arms, a glint of mischief shining in her eyes.
At the hospital, after a thorough examination, the doctors confirmed that Caroline was physically unharmed but recommended a few days of observation to ensure she didnโt suffer from psychological trauma. Frederick nodded, his expression growing serious. As he turned to head back to her room, Carolineโs screams pierced the air.
โDonโt come near me! Please! Iโm begging you! Just let me go!โ she cried, kneeling on the floor, pleading with the walls as if they were her attackers. โIโll give you anything! Money, a house, a car! Just let me go!โ
Caroline saw Frederick walk in and suddenly rushed towards him, almost in a frenzy. โClaire, please, let me go! Just give me a chance to live, okay? Iโm so young, only 22! I donโt want to die!โ she pleaded, gripping Frederickโs arm desperately.
โCaroline, itโs me, Frederick,โ he said, his brow furrowed and his eyes reddening with concern as he looked at her.
โYes, Frederick, please! I promise Iโll leave him! Iโll disappear from your life completely, I swear!โ Caroline continued, her voice rising in panic.
โOr I could disfigure my face in front of you. If Iโm ugly, Frederick wonโt want me anymore, and you can rest easy!โ
Frederick was taken aback by her words. Carolineโs eyes widened with a wild intensity, resembling someone unhinged. She released his arm and began searching for something to harm herself with.
โCaroline, listen to me!โ Frederick rushed forward to stop her, but she was unresponsive, even clawing at her own face with her hands. With no other option, he called for a doctor to give her a sedative. Once the injection was administered, Caroline finally calmed down.
At that moment, Richard arrived, looking at the now-still Caroline on the bed. โFrederick, is Caroline okay?โ
Frederick didnโt respond, his mind consumed by Carolineโs earlier words. โFind out where Claire is,โ he instructed Richard.
โRight away, Frederick,โ Richard replied, and within five minutes, he called back. โFrederick, Claire is currently working at Eclipse Nightclub, cleaning up.โ
Eclipse Nightclub? Perfect! This woman was truly relentless, attacking Caroline while pretending everything was fine at the nightclub, waiting to lure him in again. She wouldnโt shed a tear until she faced the consequences!
โMake sure she pays for what sheโs done.โ
