Chapter 351: Sheโs Dead
The soldier was gasping for breath. Richard bolted toward Frederickโs office in a frenzy. When he arrived, he found Frederick lying on the floor, unconscious. โCall an ambulance!โ he shouted, rushing over to check Frederickโs breathing. Unfortunately, Frederick was alive.
An hour later, Frederick was taken to the nearest hospital. The doctors conducted a thorough examination, running every possible test. The doctor asked, โDid the patient experience something unusual recently? Based on the results, he hasnโt rested for several days.โ
โWhat?โ Richard was stunned. He recalled how Frederick had spent the entire night poring over documents. Since then, Richard had dutifully driven him to and from work each day, ensuring he returned to the Halfmoon Manor every evening.
Chapter 351: Sheโs Dead
Unlessโฆ Frederick had gone home every night but never slept. Richard turned abruptly, looking at Frederick. His face was pale, almost bloodless. Still in a daze, Richard asked, โDoctor, what about now?โ
โWeโve administered medication to help him rest. Let him sleep for a while. But remember, emotional wounds require emotional remedies. When he wakes up, make sure to talk to him. Whateverโs haunting him, he canโt keep going like this,โ the doctor sighed, turning to leave.
Richard sat down beside the hospital bed. He watched Frederickโs weak state with a frown. Never in his life had he imagined that the fearless, commanding Frederick would end up lying so helpless in a hospital bed. And never had he thought that Claireโs death could have such a devastating impact on Frederick.
Frederick slept for a long, long time. He didnโt wake up until 24 hours later. โGeneral Hawthorne, youโre awake. Are you hungry? Iโll go get breakfast right away,โ Richard said excitedly.
Chapter 351: Sheโs Dead
โIโm not hungry. Why am I in the hospital?โ Frederick muttered. He shook his head and scanned his surroundings. โGeneral Hawthorne, why havenโt you been sleeping for days? Is it because of Ms. Prescott?โ Richard asked. He had been holding back for days.
โGo buy breakfast,โ Frederick said, unwilling to discuss the topic. Richard said anxiously, โGeneral Hawthorne, in my mind, youโve always been the kind of man who charges forward without hesitation. How can you lie to yourself like this? Even if you refuse to talk about it, it wonโt change the fact that Ms. Prescott is dead.โ He feared that if things continued like this, Frederick would break down.
โRichard, youโre just my adjutant. Who are you to lecture me?โ Frederick snapped. Richard reasoned, โYes, Iโm just your adjutant. Iโve never presumed to have the right to lecture you. But I canโt stand watching you harm yourself like this. Iโm worried about your health. Ms. Prescott is dead. Sheโs gone. She was burned to ashes in that explosion days ago. Sheโs never coming back. General Hawthorne, wake up.โ Richardโs voice cracked as he shouted.
โSay that again?โ Frederick barked. He drew his gun and pressed it against Richardโs head.
