Chapter 359: Frederick Is Doom!
Nathan pointed at Frederick, bellowing in uncontrolled rage.
โWhat? Father, please reconsider,โ Frederick pleaded.
Frederick could never have imagined that Nathan would directly demand his withdrawal from the presidential election.
Nathan said, โReconsider? Tell me, whatโs there to reconsider? Claire is dead, and you know damn well how important she was to Madam Prescott. Weโre talking about a 30% stake in Prescott Group! You know what that means. Whether Claireโs death was an accident or not doesnโt matter now. With Claire gone, once Madam Prescott finds out, sheโll be furious. You know precisely what kind of power and influence Madam Prescott wields. The only way I can think of to appease Madam Prescottโs anger is to show her that youโre so devastated by Claireโs death that youโve even given up your presidential ambitions. Only then might Madam Prescott show some mercy and leave the Hawthorne family alone. If this escalates, thereโs no telling how bad it could get. Thankfully, Claireโs true identity was confirmed four years ago. She wasnโt actually a Prescott. Otherwise, weโd be in deep trouble. Even though the Prescott family isnโt Kingstownโs wealthiest anymore, theyโre still second only to the Titan family. Not even to mention their deep-rooted influence in Kingstown over all these years. Sure, the Titan family might be Kingstownโs richest now, but they only edge out the Prescotts in terms of money. How long has the Titan family been established in Kingstown compared to the Prescott family, which has been here for fifty years? No, to be more precise, Madam Prescott built the Prescott family into Kingstownโs leading fortune and maintained that position for 50 solid years. The Titan family? Theyโve only been around for four years. The Prescottsโ connections, methods, resources, and influence are profoundly entrenched and incredibly complex. Itโs mind-boggling when you think about it. Madam Prescott, a woman on her own, took just six years to make the Prescott family Kingstownโs wealthiest. No other family comes close to that achievement. Even now, though Madam Prescott has aged, she still holds most of the power in the Prescott family. And you let something happen to Claire, who she loved like her own granddaughter! Heh, even if it was an accident, Madam Prescott wonโt let this slide. What kind of family are we, the Hawthornes? A legacy of public servants! And we couldnโt even protect one woman. How am I supposed to face Madam Prescott? Listen, Frederick, you have no other choice! You must withdraw from the presidential race as I demand. Otherwise, forget about the Prescott family! Even the Hawthorne family wonโt give you an ounce of support!โ
Nathan angrily laid out all the pros and cons of the situation before Frederick.
Frederick said, โFather, I know everything youโre saying. But I beg you to give me one more chance. If I can get the Prescott family to accept this situation and continue supporting me, would you then allow me to stay in the presidential race?โ
Frederick was well aware of everything Nathan was talking about. The reason he had kept this from Claire was that he hadnโt figured out how to explain things to Elizabeth.
โFrederick, who do you think you are to assume you can change Madam Prescottโs mind casually? If you fail and make things worse, the Hawthorne family will be ruined! Get this idea out of your head! I absolutely wonโt give you this chance!โ Nathan sneered.
He thought Frederick was naive and delusional.
โFrederick, youโre really oversimplifying everything. Listen to Father! Stop being so stubborn!โ Arthurโs eyes flickered as he tried to persuade Frederick.
โGuards! Lock him up! No one is to let him out without my permission!โ Seeing that Frederick still stubbornly refused to comply, Nathan immediately ordered him to be locked away.
โFather, please! I swear I wonโt harm the Hawthorne family! Iโll make a Military Order right now! If I fail, Iโll forfeit my life!โ Frederickโs face turned pale. Then he knocked his head heavily against the ground, the veins in his neck bulging with intensity.
He knew what consequences awaited if Nathan imprisoned him. Heโd lose not just his shot at the presidency but also his control over the Kingstown Security Department and his General rank. Everything would beโฆ No! After all these years of hard work to get where he was today, he couldnโt let it all go down the drain.
Nathan whipped his head around, staring in shock at Frederick, who was bowing to him.
Arthur hadnโt expected Frederick to make such a Military Order either. But this was perfect!
Arthur thought, โFrederick, youโre doomed!โ
