Listen to this chapter:

He had forgotten that Anna was never one to silently tolerate such betrayal. Her parents' example served as a stark warning. They had once struggled for their child, only to become resentful spouses, and after their separation, they even became enemies. Their love for their daughter had been worn down by endless disputes; they had even grown to hate Anna, and merely seeing her made them uncomfortable. Doce Anna knew the truth; she couldn't continue to live blindly. She had her own pride, and a heart scarred beyond repair could never be put back together. Rather than become resentful partners like her parents, she chose to leave. She understood that if Jonathan found out she was leaving, he would never let her go. He would use any means necessary to keep her by his side. So, Anna left everything behind in America, including her post-identity, and completely disappeared from Jonathan's life.

Bearing all this, Jonathan couldn't contain the anger and regret that consumed him. "Anna, no, this can't be true! I can't let you go!" He frantically searched for the divorce papers, intending to tear them up. But he hesitated, realizing that this might be the last thing she had left for him—that small connection. He traced Anna's name on the paper with his fingers, his eyes filled with longing. "Anna, it's my fault. I shouldn't have had another woman. I only love you."

"Later, wine, whatever you want, but please don't leave me."

"I can't live without you, Anna." Jonathan repeated his apologies over and over, his voice growing hoarse. But the one who should have heard his words was no longer there. No matter how much he said, it was too late.
