Chapter 153
Despite Sophia's introduction, Miranda remained resolute. Sophia, visibly excited, asked, "What will be your preferred payment method, Ms. Sutton?"
"Full payment," Miranda replied.
Lionel was astonished. He hadn't realized Miranda was serious about buying a villa—and that she had the funds. He started to speak, but a sharp pain in his waist—a pinch from Mindy—stopped him.
"Just let her do what she wants. Watch and don't interfere," Mindy whispered.
Lionel reluctantly remained silent. Sophia nervously accepted another bank card and hurriedly prepared the contracts.
"Ms. Sutton, are you sure you want to proceed? If everything looks good, I can process the payment now," Sophia said.
Miranda nodded. "Go ahead."
Sophia mechanically completed the process. After Miranda signed the agreement and the finance team confirmed, "The five million dollars has been credited," the surreal feeling began to fade.
Sophia thought, Oh my god! What luck! In just two days, she'd sold a prime villa! Five million dollars—beyond her wildest dreams! A wide grin spread across her face, which quickly faded as she noticed Wendy's furious expression. A giggle escaped before she could compose herself. That was a hefty commission!
Wendy, moments before brimming with superiority, now wore a grimace. Her eyes were wide with shock.
"Sophia, w—what were you going to say just now?" Wendy stammered.
"Oh, Ms. Thompson, I was just going to mention that Ms. Sutton's card is indeed a black card. I helped her choose the house and negotiate the price in the VIP reception room. We just came out to finalize the paperwork," Sophia explained.
Wendy's lips trembled. "I—Is she really going to buy it?"
"Absolutely! The contract is signed," Sophia replied, the reality still sinking in.
Unaffected by Wendy's turmoil, Miranda walked past her. "Dad, Mom, I think we've seen enough. Should we head back and start packing?"
Lionel was dazed. "Packing… What for?"
"Even though we don't need to move furniture and appliances, you and Mom will need to bring your clothes and personal items to the new place, right?" Miranda said.
Lionel nodded slowly. He struggled to process the situation. "Yes, yes, that makes sense. But wait… Where did this new house come from?"
It wasn't until they left the sales office that Lionel began to understand. Back home, he sank onto the couch, nervously rubbing his palms before asking, "Mimi, you bought a house?"
Miranda nodded.
"And it's a villa?"
Another nod.
"Full payment?"
Another nod.
Lionel was silent for ten seconds. "Buying a house is a major decision. Why didn't you discuss it with us first?"
Miranda explained, "We've lived in this house for so many years. We couldn't keep fixing it up. Isn't it normal to want a change? I kept it a surprise."
Lionel frowned. "How much did the house cost?"
Miranda hesitated, then held up five fingers.
Lionel's heart sank. Five million dollars. A villa wouldn't be cheap. Despite trying to prepare himself, the number made his heart race. "Where did you get that kind of money? Did you max out your credit card? Or worse… borrow from a loan shark?"
