Chapter 160

At that thought, Jenny couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. Among the three Sutton brothers, the eldest was doing the best. He was a business owner and had long surpassed the financial success of their family.

Next was Harold's household. Although he might not be the richest, he was better off than many. He was a manager at a testing company, a position secured through his parents' connections. The job was easy, paying him $300,000 annually. Furthermore, his wife had a stable job at a power plant, and Quincey had recently secured employment there as well. They were comfortably middle-class, if not wealthier.

Lionel's family, however, were the worst off. Despite Lionel attending Queenstone College, he returned to become a poorly paid teacher, stubbornly refusing to seek additional income. Mindy's situation was even worse; calling herself a full-time writer was merely a euphemism for unemployment. After years, she had published no books, secured no copyrights, and held no book signings. She was, to put it frankly, a lazy bum.

Their comfortable lives were suddenly disrupted. Lionel's family had inexplicably moved into a villa—the best development in Lumberville. Jenny's parents, having spent their life savings, could only afford a small apartment in a high-rise. How could Lionel's family have surpassed them?

Jenny asked Harold, "Do you know what Lionel and his family have been up to lately? Anything unusual or suspicious?"

"How would I know?"

"Aren't you his older brother?"

"We don't see each other much. Besides, haven't you always told me to stay away from them?"

Jenny was speechless. She disliked Lionel's family; who would associate with those less fortunate? She worried Mindy might ask her for money.

Harold asked, "Why are you suddenly bringing this up?"

Jenny replied, "Lionel's family quietly bought a villa. Don't you think that's strange?"

Harold was silent. It was inconceivable; a beggar suddenly becoming wealthy. Naturally, he was curious.

"Didn't Mindy say Mimi bought it?"

Chapter 160 (continued)

"Hah! Where would a young woman like Mimi get that kind of money? By selling her body?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

Wait a minute… making money through prostitution…

Jenny's eyes lit up, though a mixture of disgust, resentment, and jealousy was evident.

She called Cynthia. "Hello, Cynthia. Are you busy?"

"Jenny, what's the matter?"

"I went to Lakeside Jewel to look at houses today. Guess who I saw?"

Cynthia was disinterested. "Who?"

"Mindy and Miranda!"

"Were they at the sales office too?"

"Yes, and they bought a villa!"

Cynthia was incredulous. She couldn't believe Lionel's family would own a villa.

"Are you sure it's Mindy? Not Leonard and Rena?"

Jenny's mouth twitched. "I'm not blind. I wouldn't mistake them."

Cynthia swallowed hard. "Their family bought a villa? You must be mistaken."

"I saw the purchase agreement! How could I be mistaken?"

"How is that possible?"

Jenny sighed. "At first, I reacted the same way. But who would have thought Miranda would make her parents proud? She made a fortune away from home and bought them a villa. We can only be envious…"
