Chapter 179

“Wait! I’m not calling to chat,” Sam said solemnly. “I’ve figured out what happened in Marvedis.”

Miranda sat up straight. “Go on.”

“Are you free? Let’s grab a bite. I need to give you something,” he said.

She frowned, checked her watch, and they agreed to meet at 3:00 p.m. the following day.

As soon as they sat down, Sam got to the point. He pulled out a brown envelope and slid it across the table.

“My legal team obtained this document. Take a look,” he said. “This cross-border lawsuit has been ongoing since last year. The hotel was forced to provide all the surveillance footage, and we accidentally discovered an eyewitness. We followed the leads and uncovered the truth.”

Sam, who had been the first to know and had full confidence in his team, wasn’t surprised; the outcome matched his initial suspicions. He drummed his fingers on the table, his gaze fixed on Miranda. “Since you’re the victim, you decide how to deal with this,” he said playfully.

Her fingers curled as she looked at the envelope. She opened it. The documents detailed Ingrid’s bribery of a diving instructor to swap oxygen tanks and how a venomous snake ended up in the gift box. The evidence—photos and videos—was irrefutable.

After being hurt and nearly killed, Miranda’s reaction to the revelation wasn’t fury, but calm, as if she’d expected it.

After a long pause, she looked up. “You mentioned I can decide what to do with this document?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. Let’s call the police,” Miranda said.

Sam’s gaze sharpened; he smiled. “You’re not planning to tell Hansel?”

“Why should I? We’re over. I’m reporting this because Ingrid’s actions were illegal. This isn’t about winning him back or getting attention; it’s about protecting my life. My parents raised me to be better than to be betrayed and harmed. I’m not playing the martyr.” Hansel wasn’t a police officer or a judge; his knowledge was irrelevant.

“Then be prepared,” Sam said. “The outcome might not be as favorable as you expect.”

After leaving the restaurant, they went to the police station to file a report. The police quickly opened a case, but given its international nature and the quality of the photos and videos, a senior officer warned that it might be more of a formality than a full investigation. Despite these challenges, Miranda remained determined. The police located Ingrid, who was hosting a large college event. As she prepared to speak into the microphone, the police arrived.
