Chapter 181
“Dear, I did all this because I love you. I just want to be with you. Please forgive me this time. I swear it won’t happen again,” Ingrid said.
Hansel’s expression remained cold as he watched her desperate attempt at amends. His eyes were filled with frost. “Do you not realize your actions are a criminal offense?”
“Don’t use love as an excuse. You hurt the people I care about most. Is this how you show your love? In the end, everything you’ve done is for yourself.
“Let’s break up. From now on, stay out of my life. I want nothing to do with you.”
Ingrid reached out to grab his sleeve, but Hansel narrowed his eyes. “I won’t repeat myself. Since you saved me before, I’m letting you go this time. But don’t think you’ll always be so lucky.”
He got into his car and drove off.
She tried to chase him but felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen after a few steps. Her health was generally good, and she rarely experienced cramps. She suspected it was stress-related, especially since her period was over two weeks late.
Suddenly, she felt something wet between her legs. Watching his car disappear, she decided to go to the hospital.
At the emergency room, the doctor asked a few questions and ordered some routine tests.
Half an hour later, Ingrid was still processing what she had heard as she held the test results. “You mean I’m… pregnant?”
The doctor confirmed. “The HCG test is positive. You’re in the early stages of pregnancy. Since you’re not experiencing heavy bleeding, just make sure to get plenty of rest.”
She barely registered the rest of the doctor’s words, fixated on the word “pregnant.” Considering the timing, she realized it must have happened around Christmas.
Clutching the test results, Ingrid’s confusion turned into determination. She felt a new sense of purpose, and her eyes brightened. Since she was pregnant, she hoped Hansel might reconsider, for their child’s sake.
With that thought, she hailed a taxi to the mansion. The keypad lock hadn’t been changed, so she used her fingerprint to unlock the door. The door opened with a beep.
Hansel was still fuming. He was angry that Ingrid had fooled him. When he received the documents, he suspected Sam was behind it. The thought of Sam mocking him only fueled his anger.
When he heard the door open, Hansel snapped, “Martha, I told you I’m not eating—” He stopped, his voice trailing off when he saw Ingrid. His eyes darkened, and he barked, “How dare you show up here? Do you think I won’t do anything to you?” He glared at her with contempt.
She felt a strong urge to back down but found her courage when she touched the test results in her bag. “Dear, I’m pregnant. I just had a checkup, and I’m almost two months along. You’re going to be a father soon—”
“Get rid of it.”
Ingrid was stunned. “What… what did you say?”
Hansel, with one hand in his pocket, impatiently repeated, “I said get rid of it. Didn’t you hear me?”
He pulled out a card and threw it on the floor. “Here’s three million dollars. Take it. Our relationship is over. From now on, we’re done.”
