Chapter 189

Winter sneered, "Talk about a petty person getting her way. She even smells like a bitch."

"You shouldn't have stopped me earlier," Miranda said. "I only used a fraction of my strength—if things had really escalated, that old witch wouldn't have stood a chance."

Recalling Ingrid's sour expression as she left, Miranda chuckled. "Alright, alright," she reassured Winter. "Don't be upset. It's not worth it."

"They're just two irrelevant people; getting angry over them isn't worth ruining your health," Miranda continued.

Winter nodded. "Exactly! But if this happens again, I'm definitely throwing hands."

Miranda smiled. Her Mimi was mild-tempered; if something needed handling, she'd do it herself. She could fight.

"I got it," Miranda laughed. "You've had a scare today; it's my treat. What do you want to eat?"

Winter slung her arm around Miranda's shoulders. "I was waiting for you to suggest a feast!"

"Hmm? Isn't that my line?" Miranda teased.

"Who says it matters, as long as the idea's there? Let's go!"

In the car, Evelyn held the pregnancy report. Thinking of the doctor's positive report on Ingrid's pregnancy, she couldn't stop smiling.

Seeing Evelyn's expression, Ingrid felt more at ease. This was their first meeting. Hansel had never mentioned his family; Ingrid only knew he came from a wealthy background and had a sister.

After Hansel abruptly ended their relationship, Ingrid tried everything to contact him, but failed. Hansel's firm stance drove her to desperation. She obtained Evelyn's phone number and called to reveal her pregnancy.

So far, Evelyn seemed pleased with her and the baby. Ingrid had prepared to make a good impression. She took a deep breath and produced a neatly wrapped gift box.

Flashing a sweet, obedient smile, Ingrid said, "This is a gift for you, Mrs. Johnson, since it's our first meeting. It's nothing expensive, but it represents my heartfelt intentions. I hope you like it."

Evelyn thought, My, she even brought a gift. She's already more considerate than Miranda. Aloud, she said, "You prepared this yourself? That's very thoughtful—"

But as she opened the box, her words trailed off. Inside the beautifully wrapped blue box was a scarf—a hand-knitted scarf with uneven stitches and poor craftsmanship.

"My… did you knit this yourself?" Evelyn asked.

Ingrid nodded eagerly. "Yes, I made it myself. Do you like it?"

Evelyn couldn't bring herself to say she liked it. She replaced the lid, forcing a smile while inwardly cringing. It was so ugly!

Miranda, in contrast, always gave tasteful, though not overly expensive, gifts—Hermès scarves, for example. This was on another level of dreadful.

Evelyn knew Ingrid had access to Hansel's supplementary credit card; she wasn't short on money. Why this shabby gift?

"Mrs. Johnson, do you… not like it?" Ingrid asked cautiously. "I always believed that something handmade carries more sincerity…"

It was her first meeting with Hansel's family, and she thought a handmade gift would surpass anything store-bought. However, her future mother-in-law's expression showed otherwise.

Remembering Ingrid was carrying her precious grandson, Evelyn forced a kind response. "No, no, you're right. A handmade gift shows more thought. It does make me happy."

Ingrid relaxed. "If you like it, I'll knit one for you every year."

Evelyn was speechless. One was enough. More would be unbearable.
