Chapter 0205

“Take a look; did I calculate this correctly?” Elizabeth asked.

Sandy reviewed the data carefully and nodded. “It seems fine now.”

Silas, however, immediately spotted a discrepancy. “These two values still don’t match.”

Miranda pointed out, “In the seventh row, both values are incorrect. It should be 50.2 and 70.88, not 50 and 71.” She had noticed the errors in the two values at the seventh node while glancing at the data.

In the lab, Silas, Sandy, Bryan, and Elizabeth usually maintained a polite distance from Miranda. It wasn't outright exclusion, but they weren't close. Even Sandy's friendliness and Silas's accommodating nature couldn't easily bridge the gap stemming from differences in education, status, age, and familiarity. Their rapport with Bryan and Elizabeth differed significantly from their treatment of Miranda.

Hearing her comment, the four exchanged skeptical glances. Elizabeth visibly sneered. Silas, the most experienced and adept at quick calculations, hadn't spotted Miranda's error, yet she presumed to correct them?

Concerned Miranda might be seeking attention, Sandy offered a gentle reprimand. “Miranda, Bryan has been working on this data set for a while. The first version was completed long ago, and we’ve all cross-checked it. To say there’s an issue with the original data now seems unlikely.”

Silas nodded. “Both Paul and I verified it; there were no errors.”

Elizabeth scoffed loudly. “Some people just can't help but pretend they know everything, huh? If you don't know, don't speak. It's easy to say whatever you want when it's just talk. How ridiculous!”

Miranda frowned. “If you don’t believe me, you can verify—”

“Verify what?” Elizabeth interrupted. “We’re not even working on the same research. Bioinformatics and physics are worlds apart. Perhaps you’ve never heard the saying, ‘specialization in each field’? Dr. Jefferson already made an exception by letting you use the lab for your bioinformatics research. We’re discussing a physics problem here—why are you butting in? Trying to prove how capable and impressive you are? Winning gold medals in four Olympiad subjects in high school doesn't make you an expert in all four disciplines. Each field is further divided into different research directions. Do you really think you know everything and can chime in on anything? This isn’t high school, nor is it a competition. Problem-solving and research are not on the same level! One must be responsible for every word they say. If you don’t know, it’s better to stay silent than to spout nonsense.”

Elizabeth continued her tirade without giving Miranda a chance to respond. Sandy tried to intervene several times, but Elizabeth was too relentless. Although harsh, Elizabeth's points weren't entirely wrong. For any researcher, these are basic principles: if you have no clue, you shouldn't speak; if you do, it must be data-backed. Research isn't a tool for attention-seeking.

Sandy glanced at Miranda and sighed.
