Chapter 35
“You have a good memory. I remember there’s a book in this series that specifically talks about genetic testing. How come I can’t find it anymore?”
Miranda didn’t have a photographic memory, but she tended to remember key points. She remembered seeing this book in the library a couple of days ago. Turning to the bookshelves, she quickly scanned them. Her eyes lit up. “Dr. Young, are you talking about this book?”
Christine peered at the cover. “That’s right! You sure have a keen eye. I’ve been searching for hours, and it was right under my nose the whole time!”
“Solomon, come here. This book, combined with your thesis reference materials, should be enough for you. Take this first. I’ll continue looking for other books you could use.”
“Thank you, Dr. Young.” Solomon reached for the book.
He’d been preparing for his master’s thesis. Some reference materials were incomplete, and he’d heard Christine had the original source text, so he’d stopped by early that morning.
Only then did Christine think to introduce them. “Mimi is my student, and she’ll be my student again soon.” (Note: "former" was removed as it didn't fit the context)
Solomon was shocked. It took him a moment to regain his composure. “Is she going to be taking the postgraduate admission exams to study under you?”
Christine laughed and said to Miranda, “This is Solomon Hall. He’s in his second year of his master’s program and is preparing for his PhD. You two could be study buddies.”
Miranda nodded slightly. “It’s nice to meet you, Solomon. I’m Miranda Sutton.”
Solomon realized she was one of Christine’s students. He took out his phone and exchanged numbers with Miranda.
“This is great! We can meet up at the library. If we have any questions about bioinformatics, we can discuss them.”
After a brief conversation, Solomon left for class.
Miranda noticed the croissants on the table. She went to the kitchen and served them on a plate.
Christine smiled. “I haven’t had these in a long time. Did you go out of your way to buy these?”
This croissant bakery was an established brand. Having become famous, it had become difficult to buy its pastries. Miranda didn’t mention that she’d waited in line. She simply said, "The bakery is so far away, and there’s always a line, so I got you some."
“Next time, just bring yourself. I don’t need anything else."
Miranda held Christine’s arm. "Quickly," she said.
Christine gently patted her head. “Alright, darling. There are a couple of papers I want you to do.”
“Did you ask me to come here just to watch me work?”
“Enough yapping. I’m here to push you to study.”
“Alright, I’ll get to it now.”
Christine smiled as she watched Miranda work. Miranda spent the day at Christine’s place, preparing a meal for her. After cleaning up the kitchen, she went home.
That night, Miranda was studying when she received a text from Solomon: “Are you going to the library tomorrow?”
After considering, Miranda replied, “Yes.”
The next morning, when Miranda arrived at the library, Solomon was waiting at the entrance.
“Have you eaten? I brought you some breakfast.” Solomon had stopped by the cafeteria and bought an extra serving.
Miranda thanked him. She ate quickly, and then they entered the library together.
Solomon had already reserved a study spot. Just as Miranda was about to enter, someone else arrived first. It was Ingrid and her roommate, Abigail Norton.
