Chapter 47
This was a rare opportunity for Miranda.
“If you’re interested, you can take this home and look it over carefully,” Paul said, placing a USB drive in front of her. “This contains the details of the experiment materials.”
Miranda looked up, her bright eyes filled with emotion. “Thank you. I’ll consider it carefully.”
At 10:00 p.m., Miranda decided to head home. Paul walked her to the door. “I live right across from you, so there’s no need to see me off,” Miranda said with a smile.
However, Paul glanced at her fingers, which were inadvertently exposed. He gently reminded her, “You shouldn’t keep a band-aid on for too long. It’s best to leave it uncovered after disinfecting it with iodine.”
Instinctively, Miranda curled her fingers. “Thank you. I’ll do that,” she said.
Paul nodded slightly. He turned and produced a small pot of pink succulents. “This is for you.”
Surprised and delighted, Miranda blinked, staring at the succulents in her palm. Their chubby leaves transitioned from green to pink; they were very cute.
“It’s so adorable. Are you sure you want to give it to me?”
“Yes, I passed by the florist a few days ago and saw it was the only one left, so I bought it. Consider it a thank you for the meal you cooked for me last time.”
Miranda smiled. “I’ll accept it this time, but you shouldn’t be so formal about a meal between friends. Don’t get me gifts next time.” Her bright eyes twinkled.
“Alright,” Paul said. His heart skipped a beat.
Early the next morning, Zach, Calvin, and a few friends visited Hansel at the hospital.
Zach entered carrying a thermos, looking pleased. “Hans, don’t say we didn’t take care of you. Look what I brought! Pumpkin soup!”
“I know your stomach can’t handle heavy food, so I got something light. I had my chef get up early to make this. The portion might seem small, but it’s packed with nutrients. You’ll be up and about in no time after eating it.”
Calvin stared at the fragrant, golden soup, then at Zach’s smiling face. He couldn’t stop his lips from twitching. Was this guy here to deliver soup or to cause trouble?
They all knew Hansel hated soup, except for the special cream of vegetable soup Miranda made.
Sure enough, Hansel barely took a sip before scowling. He threw down the spoon. “I’m not going to eat this! It tastes disgusting! Where did you find a chef who can’t even make soup properly?”
Zach raised an eyebrow. “You’re too picky. I ate it myself, and I don’t see any problem with it.”
Hansel’s face was expressionless. “If you like it so much, eat it yourself.”
Zach snorted. “I think the problem isn’t with the soup, but with the person who made it. My chef is just an old man. How could he compare to your beautiful girlfriend, who made soup with love? Oh, wait, I mean ex-girlfriend.”
Calvin coughed furiously, trying to stop Zach from digging his own grave, but it was too late.
Hansel roared, “Get out!”
Zach quickly grabbed the thermos. “Fine, I’ll leave! No wonder Miranda doesn’t want to come back to a man with a bad temper like yours. If I were her, I wouldn’t come back either!” He left in a hurry.
Calvin chased after him. “You knew he was upset, and yet you still attacked his sore spot! You’re really something else!”
Zach said wryly, “Even you know Miranda is his weak spot. He’s just too stubborn to admit it. If he wants her to visit, he should just say so instead of pretending to act tough!”
Calvin was speechless.
Zach continued, “Speaking of which, Cal, how about you give him a hand?”
