Listen to this chapter:

At the library, Miranda had been working on practice papers. She got stuck on the last question of both papers. She’d been trying to solve it for a long time but couldn't find the answer.

Finally, she remembered seeing a similar problem in a book and got up to look for the material in the library's reference section. She found the book after a few minutes. Just as she decided to return to her seat, another book nearby caught her attention.

The title was “The Fusion and Recombination of Genome Sequences.” She recalled what Paul had said and instinctively pulled the book out.

After skimming a few pages, Miranda was surprised to find that the author's opinion was quite similar to her own ideas. She continued flipping through the pages. The more she read, the more delighted she became, until her phone vibrated in her pocket.

A WhatsApp message notification from Winter appeared: “Guess where I am?”

Miranda thought Winter was playing a game. As she was about to reply, something occurred to her. She replied, “Are you at the college?”

“Bingo!”

Miranda went downstairs and saw Winter standing under a tree outside the library. “Why did you come all of a sudden?”

“I was nearby and thought I’d bring you something delicious.” Winter gestured at the bag in her hand. A fragrant aroma wafted out. “I should get going now that I’ve delivered it.”

Miranda asked, “Aren’t you going to eat it with me?”

Winter waved her hand. “I brought it especially for you. I’m too busy to eat.” She sighed. “I recently took on a new project. I’ve been busy for three days, and I’ve only slept eight hours. What’s worse, my dad summoned me right after I woke up. It’s just unfair!”

Winter worked as a designer, taking on only a few large projects each year. However, each project was quite complicated, leaving her little time to rest. This time, she’d been forced to step in at the last minute; otherwise, they wouldn't have called an amateur like her.

“Speaking of which, this issue seems to involve the Johnson family,” Winter said, her eyes gleaming. “Are you interested—”

Before she could finish, Miranda interrupted. “I’m not interested.” She handed Winter her umbrella. “Aren’t you busy? Remember to protect yourself from the sun.”

Winter raised an eyebrow as she watched Miranda leave. She hadn’t even finished speaking. She looked down at the tender information. She hadn’t been lying; the Johnson family was indeed one of the Jefferson family’s competitors.

Meanwhile, Hansel chased Zach, Calvin, and the others out after sending Ingrid away. The bustling room fell silent. Rubbing his temples, Hansel glanced at the needle in his hand and pulled it out.

Blood immediately oozed out. Hansel frowned, grabbed a tissue to stop the bleeding, found his coat, put it on, and prepared to leave. Coincidentally, a nurse entered to change his IV drip. Seeing him about to leave, she tried to stop him. “Mr. Johnson! You can’t leave yet!”

Hansel frowned. “Get out of my way!”

The nurse wanted to persuade him further but didn’t dare after seeing his rage and the cold air emanating from him. She watched him leave and immediately reported his departure to the hospital management.

Hansel hated hospitals and the powerlessness they brought. He just wanted to go home. He soon received a call from Evelyn but, focused on driving, didn’t answer. Evelyn persisted, calling repeatedly. Annoyed, Hansel answered.

Evelyn’s urgent voice came through. “The hospital called; you left without permission. Don’t you know the severity of your condition? You need to go back now!”
