Chapter 54
Solomon was the professor's favorite student. Although he wasn't in Miranda's field, they found common ground in their conversations. Miranda enjoyed their in-depth discussions about their studies.
She was preparing for postgraduate admission exams. While she'd mastered most of the content, she was unfamiliar with mainstream research directions in her field. This required extensive reading of papers and journals—a long-term commitment; it couldn't be achieved overnight.
Solomon, naturally, was more knowledgeable. She'd been out of school for several years, while he was a postgraduate student.
Behind them, Hansel clenched his fists, watching their happy conversation. Miranda's coldness toward him stung. She'd refused to meet him, despite his pleas, yet here she was, smiling with another man.
Miranda had prepared a sumptuous feast. Solomon knew of her culinary skills, but he was still shocked by the variety of dishes.
"Aren't these too many dishes for just the two of us?" he asked.
Miranda smiled. "You've helped me so much. This meal is the least I can do to show my gratitude."
Solomon scratched his head, embarrassed. "Actually, I haven't helped that much. Your study efficiency is far better than I imagined."

He'd seen her progress firsthand. She was quick to understand and retain information; he rarely needed to explain things twice.
Miranda said, "Studying is only part of it. I'm most grateful for your help finding research materials. Thanks to you, I accessed resources only available to Bedford College students."
Solomon exclaimed, "So you've been reading research papers and preparing for the exams simultaneously…"
He suddenly understood Christine's high regard for Miranda.
After dinner, Solomon lingered. It was dark when he left. Miranda saw him off, taking out the trash.
"Your cooking was delicious. Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Solomon scratched his head. "I'll head back to college now. See you at the library tomorrow?"
"Sure," Miranda replied.
Paul approached, looking grim, seemingly on his way home from the lab. Solomon straightened and greeted him. "Dr. Jefferson! Do you live here too?"
Paul saw Miranda beside Solomon. His gaze lingered on Solomon, who looked familiar. "Are you from Bedford College?"
"Yes, Dr. Jefferson. Faculty of Bioinformatics. I took your course on the fundamental principles of physics," Solomon answered.
"I see."
Miranda tried to greet Paul, but his gaze didn't meet hers. He went upstairs after Solomon stepped aside. She shrugged.
"I never thought Dr. Jefferson lived here! What a coincidence!" Solomon exclaimed. "I took his course. He's an amazing lecturer. My roommate wanted to take it this semester, but couldn't get a spot. I heard most of the students who got in were women…"
From the landing, Paul glanced back. If he remembered correctly, the young man was Solomon Hall. It was the first time he'd seen anyone else at Miranda's apartment. Perhaps he was her boyfriend?
Paul chuckled. What did it matter to him?
After seeing Solomon off, Miranda went to dispose of her trash. A dark figure grabbed her wrist.
Fear made Miranda's scalp prickle. Just as she was about to struggle, she heard a familiar, sarcastic voice
