Chapter 137: Canโt Stop Thinking About Benjamin
Hayleyโs POV:
I clung tightly to his neck, my entire body trembling. Benjamin stayed quiet, letting me hold him. He gently patted my back to reassure me. โItโs alright now, Ms. Selena. Iโve scared it away.โ
Only then did I slowly lift my head and look around. Seeing no sign of the snake, I finally felt a weight lift off my chest. โItโs gone. Youโre safe,โ Benjamin said, looking directly into my eyes. It was only then that I realized how intimate our position was. Standing this close to him, I could feel Heraโs excitement building within me.
Realizing how inappropriate my actions were, I quickly stepped back, ignoring Heraโs protest, and apologized, feeling embarrassed. โIโm sorry, Mr. Benjamin, I overstepped.โ
Benjamin withdrew his hand and looked at me with an unreadable expression. โI never would have guessed that Ms. Selena is so afraid of snakes! I didnโt know there were wolves who were afraid of them.โ
I wasnโt sure how to respond, so I shifted the topic. โIf thereโs nothing else, Mr. Benjamin, Iโll head back to take care of Ms. Amy.โ
Benjamin nodded. โGo on, then. Look after Ms. Amy.โ
Relieved, I walked back, but remembering the tense exchange Iโd had with Amy earlier, I decided not to go inside. Instead, I sat at the bar near the hot spring entrance and ordered a drink.
A little while later, Amy and Benjamin came out together. Amy was beaming, looking entirely unbothered by our previous disagreement. โMr. Benjamin, todayโs hot spring experience was wonderful. Iโm very satisfied, especially with Ms. Selena; she was so attentive.โ
Benjamin kept his expression neutral. โMs. Amy, youโre too kind. Iโve arranged for a dinner featuring Midnight Packโs signature dishes tonight. Shall we head over?โ
Amy smiled. โThank you, Mr. Benjamin. That sounds lovely.โ
With that, Amy walked ahead, and I stepped up to Benjamin and said, โMr. Benjamin, I wonโt be joining you for dinner tonight. I have some things to take care of, so Iโll head home.โ
Benjamin looked at me but didnโt press for details. โAlright, go on.โ
But as soon as I got into the car to head back, I couldnโt help but imagine Benjamin and Amy spending time alone together. Especially knowing that Amy was clearly interested in himโฆ would something happen between them?
The thought crept in, and I quickly shook my head, trying to push it away. โHayley, what nonsense are you thinking?โ
I tried to force those thoughts out of my mind. When I got home, I changed, redid my makeup, and tried to settle down.
Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, I couldnโt stop replaying the moment from earlierโwhen Iโd thrown myself into Benjaminโs arms. His scent lingered in my memory, still fresh and intoxicating, not only for Hera but now, it seemed, for me as well.
I turned over, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldnโt shake the image of him holding me. Whatโs wrong with me? Why canโt I stop thinking about Benjamin? Is it because the Moon Goddess destined him as my mate? Am I bound to be drawn to him because of that? But what about him? How does he feel about me?
My mind was flooded with questions, and I didnโt fall asleep until much later.
The next morning, I crawled out of bed, looking at my reflection with two dark circles under my eyes. I hurriedly applied some concealer to cover them up.
When I went downstairs, the first thing I saw was Benjamin sitting on the couch, legs crossed, casually flipping through a file. The simple act of reading somehow radiated his natural alpha auraโpowerful and commanding.
โYouโre up,โ Benjamin said, closing the file and glancing at his watch. โWe have 15 minutes before weโre late. Letโs go.โ
With that, he was already heading toward the door. I stood there, hesitating.
Benjamin paused, frowning slightly as he looked back at me. โWhatโs wrong? Are you coming or not?โ
