Chapter 18: Suspicion Grows
Hayleyโs POV
The spot on my stomach where Eloise had kicked me throbbed painfully. I groaned and clung tightly to Benjaminโs clothes. He noticed my discomfort and gently lifted me to the back seat of the car, saying, โSorry, I forgot youโre an Omega and might have a lower pain threshold. Do you want to go to the hospital?โ
โNo need,โ I replied. I planned to secretly awaken Hera later. It wouldnโt take long for me to heal on my own. I was only a bit surprised. Wasnโt he supposed to be repulsed by me, like his other siblings?
Seeing my refusal, he frowned but said nothing, driving me back to the Southwells Residence. Returning to the room, I took out my phone and saw a flurry of messages from Thomas.
โAlpha, are you alright? Were you saved?โ
I texted back, โYes, but I got hurt.โ
Thomas sent me a crying emoji and replied, โYouโre so unlucky! Do you need my help?โ
โI can handle it. You donโt need to follow up.โ
โOkay, call me if you need anything,โ Thomas replied flatteringly.
After dealing with my talkative Beta, I made a phone call. Since I couldnโt confront Eloise as an Alpha, I arranged for someone else to handle it. The other party was angry after hearing what had happened to me. โEloise Scott, right? Iโll take care of the aftermath!โ
โThank you then,โ I sweetly replied.
โOh, by the way, Hayz, Iโm planning to visit the Midnight Pack to meet an old friend. Iโll see you then,โ the person on the other end of the phone said dotingly.
โThat sounds great. Iโll treat you to a drink then!โ
Just then, someone knocked on the door. I put away my phone, opened the door in confusion, and saw Benjaminโs cold face.
โDoctor, here is the patient. Please check on her.โ
โMs. Carson, right? Can we come in?โ
โYes, of course.โ Seeing the doctor with medical supplies, I couldnโt refuse, so I let them in. The doctor performed a quick check and handed me some medicine. โThere donโt seem to be any majorโฆโ
I was eager for the doctor to leave. โOkay, thank you.โ
After the doctor left, Benjamin and I exchanged glances. He suddenly asked, โWere you talking to someone on the phone just now?โ
I casually made up an excuse, โIt was just a prank call.โ
Benjamin looked at me with suspicion for a moment before saying, โGive me your number, so I can contact you if necessary.โ
โSure.โ I readily agreed, wanting to drive him out of the room. I typed my number into his phone and handed it back to him. โGoodnight, Benjamin.โ
Benjamin reminded me again, โDonโt forget to take your medicine.โ Then, he turned and walked out. As the door was closing, I noticed him glance back at me with a meaningful look before he picked up his phone, seemingly ready to make a call.
Was he starting to suspect something?
