Chapter 18: Suspicion Grows

Hayleyโ€™s POV

The spot on my stomach where Eloise had kicked me throbbed painfully. I groaned and clung tightly to Benjaminโ€™s clothes. He noticed my discomfort and gently lifted me to the back seat of the car, saying, โ€œSorry, I forgot youโ€™re an Omega and might have a lower pain threshold. Do you want to go to the hospital?โ€

โ€œNo need,โ€ I replied. I planned to secretly awaken Hera later. It wouldnโ€™t take long for me to heal on my own. I was only a bit surprised. Wasnโ€™t he supposed to be repulsed by me, like his other siblings?

Seeing my refusal, he frowned but said nothing, driving me back to the Southwells Residence. Returning to the room, I took out my phone and saw a flurry of messages from Thomas.

โ€œAlpha, are you alright? Were you saved?โ€

I texted back, โ€œYes, but I got hurt.โ€

Thomas sent me a crying emoji and replied, โ€œYouโ€™re so unlucky! Do you need my help?โ€

โ€œI can handle it. You donโ€™t need to follow up.โ€

โ€œOkay, call me if you need anything,โ€ Thomas replied flatteringly.

After dealing with my talkative Beta, I made a phone call. Since I couldnโ€™t confront Eloise as an Alpha, I arranged for someone else to handle it. The other party was angry after hearing what had happened to me. โ€œEloise Scott, right? Iโ€™ll take care of the aftermath!โ€

โ€œThank you then,โ€ I sweetly replied.

โ€œOh, by the way, Hayz, Iโ€™m planning to visit the Midnight Pack to meet an old friend. Iโ€™ll see you then,โ€ the person on the other end of the phone said dotingly.

โ€œThat sounds great. Iโ€™ll treat you to a drink then!โ€

Just then, someone knocked on the door. I put away my phone, opened the door in confusion, and saw Benjaminโ€™s cold face.

โ€œDoctor, here is the patient. Please check on her.โ€

โ€œMs. Carson, right? Can we come in?โ€

โ€œYes, of course.โ€ Seeing the doctor with medical supplies, I couldnโ€™t refuse, so I let them in. The doctor performed a quick check and handed me some medicine. โ€œThere donโ€™t seem to be any majorโ€ฆโ€

I was eager for the doctor to leave. โ€œOkay, thank you.โ€

After the doctor left, Benjamin and I exchanged glances. He suddenly asked, โ€œWere you talking to someone on the phone just now?โ€

I casually made up an excuse, โ€œIt was just a prank call.โ€

Benjamin looked at me with suspicion for a moment before saying, โ€œGive me your number, so I can contact you if necessary.โ€

โ€œSure.โ€ I readily agreed, wanting to drive him out of the room. I typed my number into his phone and handed it back to him. โ€œGoodnight, Benjamin.โ€

Benjamin reminded me again, โ€œDonโ€™t forget to take your medicine.โ€ Then, he turned and walked out. As the door was closing, I noticed him glance back at me with a meaningful look before he picked up his phone, seemingly ready to make a call.

Was he starting to suspect something?
